Such is boxing. There have been ceetain situations in the past similar to this such as the 1952 Charles vs Louis hw title fight with Louis retiring as champion and coming back without losing the title vs the new champion.
I pretty much agree with Rumspringa's take here. I think Usyk has done enough to create a new lineage (it was #1 v #2 with the champ 'retired') but it's later in time than Fury's & therefore subject to it. An earlier, legitimate claim to the title takes precedence over a later one. Usyk has done enough to make out a legitimate claim to the title but Fury's claim is also legitimate & earlier in time. That makes Fury the one, true legitimate Lineal champ. Unless of course Lennox Lewis comes out of retirement & declares himself the champ.
nah he officially retired he may of later changed his mind but he did retire twice... he was even removed from the Rings rankings after relinquishing the title by way of retirement.
Yet still holds an alphabet title and is looking to box less than a year after he last boxed. Fury is an active fighter. More fool anyone who bought the retirement schtick. Some of us did try to tell you.
The WBC is hardly a consistent body to support an argument where is Wilder ranked after not having a win since 2019? you expect them to move on quickly?
The WBC were about to move on. Then, after generously gifting Usyk that pretty The Ring belt, Fury informed Sulaimán and Co. that he is still an active fighter. Nobody on this forum with a shred of discernment should've taken that 'retirement' seriously. Even sensible men seem prone to losing their minds where it concerns the world's heavyweight champeen, however.
Actually he informed the Ring that he did in fact retire a few weeks ago which is why he lost that ring belt.
As I said, he generously and quite deliberately gifted it to Usyk (or the Usyk-Joshua winner, at least), whether to generate further speculation or (as he has claimed) because he wants to win it a third time or both. He has retained the remaining physical symbol of his championship status just as deliberately. These are calculated acts. While the publication had to take his word at face value where it concerned their title, it was plain to any observer in his right mind that Fury was not legitimately retired. The few of us who weren't too emotionally disturbed to actually read the situation tried to tell the rest of you.
it doesn't matter he officially retired... just because he is a flake and cannot be taken at face value it is his own fault that AJ-Usyk 2 can be considered lineal he has no one to blame but himself.
Why don't you just appoint Usyk as GOD and worship him every Sunday. Until then he needs to beat Fury to be lineal.
Magnificent. I also add that Jake Kilraine was declared champ for his fight with Jim Smith when John L. Sullivan was inactive.
because to establish a new line as champion after a champion retires should require more than beating someone you just beat. it's stupid. to become champion of world in the situation should require proving better than just one rated opponent.
