the principle of 2 top rated contesting vacant lineal should only be a case where they have eliminated other contenders from consideration & are indisputable number 1 & 2

The other part of the argument is your own personal feeling-it doesnt work that way and never has been that way.
If you are 1 and 2 you are 1 and 2 and there will always be 3 and 4.

The biggest problem in boxing today is inactivity. Pre-2020 we complained about the best not fighting the best, but now we're lucky if they fight at all.

We have to rein this in, and it starts at the top. If Fury says he retired, he retired. If the top two fought, the winner is the lineal champ. If he wants the lineal title back, he's gotta go beat Usyk.

They do love to throw a little eccentric flair into their rankings. Michael Hunter? Andy Ruiz in the top three?

That's why Fury is popular, he creates absurdities. This one just happened to lose him the lineal title.

Well, no, because he still holds the WBC title. The WBC is a symbol of officiality in this sport, whether we appreciate the general practices of the sanctioning body or not.

The man who beat the man is still active, we all know who that is, and Usyk needs to go through him.

Usyk knows it, too, and that's to his credit. "If I'm not fighting Tyson Fury, I'm not fighting at all."

 

Fury officially retired, thus relinquishing his status as Lineal champion. Period.

I'm sick of these basic facts needing endlessly repeating to boxing simpletons. Year after year. The rules of the Lineal championship should be stickied at the top of the forum.
