I'm sure JJW had visions of Sept.23, 1952 in his head when he hit the deck after the right uppercut....

You call them"qualifiers", I call them salient facts!
Louis had been a pro for less than 3 months when he faced16-1-1 Wiater he floored him in the first.Louis was having his7th fight
Louis had been a pro for 8 months when he faced Brown,he floored him in the first. Louis was having his17th fight.
Louis kod Brown in 4rds in their second fight.
Marciano had been a pro for 2.5years when he faced Lowry he failed to floor him.He was having his 21st fight.
Marciano had been a pro for 3.5 years when he faced Lowry in their second fight he failed to floor him.Marciano was having his 30th fight.
Marciano had been a pro for 4.5 years when he faced Applegate,he failed to floor him.Marciano was having his 40th fight. I repeat.
    SPOT THE DIFFERENCE?

    Put it this way.

If Rocky did not hit harder than Louis in terms of pure power, then we must have been chronically underrating his boxing ability.

You cant have a fighter being successful for no reason.

Of course he was! Whenever a formerly durable fighter gets stopped late in his career it is accompanied with the caveat but he was ??years old!

I'd need more than one loss to convince me he wasn't tough. Without the past it fights !

Walcott went 26 rounds with Louis and 14 rounds with Marciano. If he says Marciano hit harder....Marciano hit harder. No one in this world is in any position to argue.

Didn't Tyson say something similar? Something like, punches that you use to not even feel all of a sudden start hurting more when you get older.

Primes and age don't come into it?

Ted Lowry went 20 rounds with Marciano without being floored ,Harry Mathews ko'd him in 5rds.Rusty Payne ko'd Lowry in7 rds.
Therefore both Mathews and Payne hit harder than Marciano right?
Willis Applegate went 10 rds with Marciano without being floored.Lee Oma stopped him in 9 rounds.
What do you know? Oma hit harder than Marciano!
Really ,really stupidly crass comparison on your part.

Can you feel that credibility leaving you?

Do you really think this is a complete argument?
You are picking at strands and ignoring the fabric, or the totality of the topic.

Someone could counter with another "strand" and say that Louis was the second most accurate puncher of all time, and shouldn't have let Wiater, Brown, and Farr get away from him.

And then you can go back and forth with "strands" hundreds of times.
You are just choosing the strands that support your agenda, and you're ignoring the fabric.
