Good job. I absolutely agree that Chilemba was a far better choice as a tuneup than Ward v. Brand. I just watched Brand for the first time and he is about as far removed from Kovalev as a fighter can get. He's a wild swinging undisciplined poor man's Mayorga.

Kovalev didn't look great and his stamina was a bit concerning. Tired fighters tend to bite on feints more and that might be why Chilemba had some success with his feints.

I'm still on the bubble with Ward v. Kovalev. I'm leaning towards Ward but the one thing that gives me pause is Kovalev's power. If Ward can stay inside thus avoiding Kovalev's wheelhouse he could take a decision.

I still don't understand why Ward is fighting a guy like Brand. This does nothing for him to prepare for Kovalev. Brand is basically a caveman, who is 39 years. Ward is going to win by TKO and he's going to look impressive doing it.

Kovalev on the other hand took on a tough, tricky fighter. He actively seek out a tough challenge to prepare for Ward while Ward does the opposite. It's going to create a distorted reality where Ward look impressive and Kovalev didn't.

I don't see how this fight does Ward any favors.

maybe Ward knows something you don't? Or perhaps the Ward camp should hire you as a consultant?

    Thanks, marting! :cheers

I'm still on the bubble myself. And I'll probably be wrong whoever I pick, but I just want to see the fight! Can't wait!

I tend to believe Ward is less concerned about finding a foe who has similar attributes to Kovalev than he is about just getting rounds in. Could wind up being a mistake, and I definitely believe (like I mentioned in the vid) that Chilemba is better prep for Kovalev than Brand is for Ward. But I think Ward is just looking to get some work in, mostly.

Excellent insight Rummy. I just hope the fight goes through and it's not delayed by injury. Kovalev-Ward is one of the best fights that can made right now. Nov can't come soon enough.

Kovalev didn't anticipate that the fight would be that hard. I think that he truly had intentions on going home early. It's just that nobody told Chalemba that.

Or maybe that was first time you've seen Chilemba and maybe you expected that, but most Kovalev fans including myself knowing why Chilemba was brought in, as a legit tricky as hell warm up, assumed Kovalev was going to have a tough task ahead of him with Isaac.

A while ago I didn't see Ward having any chance of winning, but recently I watched his fights vs Dawson and Froch, if he hasn't dropped a step it's a 50-50 fight

Sidenote here for all the people who seem to think Kovalev overlooked or underestimated Chilemba, Isaac fights for MAIN EVENTS, which isn't exactly the biggest operation with a ton of fighters, everyone realized how good of a facsimile of Ward that Chilemba could do, that's why he was brought in, to get rounds in and prepare himself with, so for all the morons who think otherwise, you're an idiot.

Why would you pick a spoiler type fighter who's given everyone he's ever fought a hard fight (and he's fought some good fighters; Oosthuizen, Alvarez, couple of good Russian prospects etc) if you want an easy fight? Kovalev could have just picked some guy like Sukhotsky and have an easy first round KO win if a showcase is what he wanted.
