Fritzie Zivic W 10 Tony Marteliano:
    [yt]vsLEfzaUlnU[/yt]
Rare footage of Zivic during his relatively brief tenure as WW champ. Contrary to what the video implies, this was actually a non-title fight. Note the cracking right uppercut that Zivic flattens Marteliano with at the end of the fight. Marteliano was saved from a KO by the bell, but lost on points.

Eduardo Lausse D 10 Milo Savage:
    [yt]p5N_Flldn24[/yt]
Lausse's incredible run of 34 consecutive wins was ended by tough journeyman Savage in Madison Square Garden, who battled Lausse to a draw. Savage pressured Lausse throughout, getting inside of his telegraphed swings and working him over on the inside. Lausse suffered a flash knockdown in round 7, but finished with a rush in the closing rounds to pull out the draw. The fight exposed some of Lausse's limitations and took some of the luster off his image, and ultimately signaled the start of his decline from the top of the ratings.

Bobby Boyd W 10 Gene Fullmer:
    [yt]bneAZAfIG9w[/yt]
Fullmer's second career defeat, an upset loss to the talented contender Boyd. Boyd would go on to be one of the top MW contenders for about a year before a crushing KO loss to Joey Giardello derailed his title fight ambitions. Note that the referee here is Tony Zale.

Bob Foster W 12 Henry Hank II:
    [yt]MEX1liQp5JA[/yt]
A film most of you have already seen: an up-and-coming Foster spears his way to a lopsided decision over an aging, but still considered dangerous Hank. This was a rematch: their first fight, by sharp contrast to this one, was a brutal punch-a-thon, with Foster coming through with a stoppage win (the only such defeat of Hank's long career) in the late rounds.

Teddy Yarosz W 15 Vince Dundee III:
    [yt]cnfiC8RIQ1I[/yt]
    [yt]VbvyjaU8XiU[/yt]
Here is the very underrated and overlooked HOFer Teddy Yarosz's title winning effort, against arch rival Vince Dundee. Yarosz had previously beaten Dundee twice, yet Dundee somehow ended up getting a title shot first (vs. Lou Brouillard), which he duly won in a surprising upset. Yarosz and Dundee presented something of a contrast in styles, with Yarosz being an ultra slick, obviously talented boxing phenom in the Tommy Loughran mold, while Dundee was a rugged, cagey "pulling fights out of the fire"-type bruiser. After this fight, Dundee (who was already in the advanced stages of his career when he won the title) suffered the quick brutal KO loss to Freddie Steele that is also in this thread, and faded away. Yarosz looked to have a long and fruitful title reign ahead of him, but a combination of a recurring knee injury and two shocking upset losses to the otherwise unheralded and mediocre Babe Risko (one by stoppage in a non-title fight, the other by decision for the title) ended his days as a champion, and he was never given a chance to regain his title. Although he scored wins over ATG HOFers such as Billy Conn and Archie Moore in his career, Yarosz's legacy somehow seems (quite unfairly) defined mainly by his brief and disappointing title reign.

Thanks for posting this. A few years ago I thought Yarosz was the most underrated fighter of them all. He had not been elected to the Hall of Fame despite defeating ten world champions. He has since been elected.

Yarosz couldn't punch hard enough to break an egg, but he clearly was a very frustrating man to fight with all that foot speed and torso movement. His one ko defeat, to the light punching Risko, seems to have been a fluke in which Yarosz either tore the cartilage in his knee, or broke his kneecap, in the first round, but still fought on to the 7th on one leg, before falling coming out of his corner and having his seconds stop the fight.

Here's a Mauro Mina highlight reel spread out over several videos:

    [yt]NxLO1MJ2gB8&feature=channel[/yt]

How good was Mina? Was he the "real deal" or perhaps a bit over-mythicized? How would he have fared against contemporary champions like Harold Johnson and Willie Pastrano? Watch for yourself and decide.

Difficult to say based on the footage. I thought he looked about as good as I could've expected, though, being as that's the first footage I've ever seen of him. Nice jab, right hand, handled himself well on the inside. Seemed very well-schooled while being well enough off physically to hold his own with many top Light Heavies. A bit like a Light Heavyweight version of Cervantes, with some notable differences.

He's tough to judge.A very good boxer-puncher, though i'd actually say if i was to pick out a flaw from what i've viewed, it would be his strength. He struggled physically at times with Hank who was certainly not the biggest or strongest lightheavy, being a natural 160lber.

Haven't seen the Hank footage, unless I somehow missed it up there. Hank was a hell of a puncher, though, and despite not being natural at Light Heavy he held his own with a lot of the top fighters there. A real monster to go toe-to-toe with for anyone not named Dick Tiger. I hear the first Foster fight was a slug-fest as well, actually, before Hank succumbed to one of Bob's bombs and took the count for the first and only time in his career.

I don't know, Mina seemed to be a pretty big, strong guy (perhaps the physique fooled me) in the footage above, though admittedly it's not much.

edit: Just checked Boxrec and apparently the referee called off the Foster/Hank fight. Hank was one tough *******.

No, it's not up there. I have the Hank fight in its entirety, and I am in the process of uploading it as we speak. I hope to have it up by tomorrow.

I actually thought Hank might've beaten him, or at least should've gotten a draw. It was a somewhat atypical fight from Hank, as he actually danced and flurried for much of the fight.

I believe the Allen Thomas fight, which went to a draw, actually ended Mina's potential career in the United States and his hopes of getting a title shot as he suffered a detached retina. He was only allowed to box in South America from that point onwards.

He wasn't overly impressive in his U.S. debut against Henry Hank.

I can make a case for Mina being top 10 all time at 175lb.

It's possible it was just Hank's high energy awkward style that was throwing his tming and balance off a bit.i'll watch it again if my2sense is uploading it, been a while.
