    I don't wanna seem ignorant and I don't know too much about Korean boxing and have only really heard of In Jin Chi, doo koo kim, and just got finished watching some clips of chang. He is pretty good. You made an assertion that Koreans had greater fighters historically than the Philippines, I would really love to see footage or read something about them.

    For the Pinoys I found this on google video and it had some filipinese talk, what were they saying. I found this video very interesting and seems to back my belief that Filipinos are Asias finest warriors.

    ey, dominicano. historically, philippines has always been at the center of various wars.

    from 1500 until now, the philippines has not experienced any peace unlike other countries. we still have a communist insurgency, islamic insurgency to add to our criminal problems.

    probably contributed to the culture of fighting as a means of survival in life here in the philippines.

    that is why we have so many good fighters. in the same manner that brazil or some african countires producing great footballers, boxing is a way out of poverty here.

    I wanna see some Korean fighters. According to Finito this guy is arguably the best superfly ever.

    I wanna see more. If Koreans are the best Asian fighters according to Finito he needs to share them with the world.

    I think you would struggle to find a solid arguement to say Korea has had more success in boxing over the Filos..especially in the pros. There have been a lot more greats to come out of the Philippines and probably even titlists I would say.

    In the am's I think they have maybe done better.

    Moon is probably my favourite Korean great. With Chang being up there.

    But youve got Yuh, Choi (several actually like Yo Sam, Yong-Soo and Chang-Ho), Baek, Hi Sup Shin, Choo, Hong and many more titlists along the way. They had a bit of a monoply on lighfly-superfly at a couple of times in the 80's and 90's.
    Throw in some ethnic Koreans like Masamori Tokuyama, who I had big raps on during his prime.

    It is a very strong boxing nation in the lower weights and has had a couple of titlists higher up aswell. Though it has often benefited from the odd dodgy decision.

    Thanks for your input. I will look some of those fighters up, Chang seems like a very entertaining fighter and I had fun watching him. I will look those other guys up. So in other words, aside from Finito's prideful assesment, it is really a no brainer. I think Japanese fighters and Thais maybe a fairer comparisson but since we have a Korean here making a bold statement of Korean boxing greatness surpassing a country that I am more aware of having produced great fighters, I am curiously all ears. I want to see.

    At the high end of Asia's greats youve got Harada, Manny, Elorde and Villa.. guys who would be in the top 100 or so fighters ever.

    After that its hard to clearly distinguish between the fighters because some were excellent fighters who were shortlived champs, some were champs for a bit longer but not as good..some just werent that good.

    Judging on just this tier of fighters then maybe Korea has a chance because they have had close to 50 titlists I reckon. Im pretty sure the Phillipines has actually had less maybe only 30-35..Ive seen that number thrown around before.
    Thailand maybe about the same, Im starting to think actually a couple more..like close to 40.
    And Id be pretty certain in saying Japan probably trumps them all..im not sure by how much but Im counting more confirmed titlists in my head from Japan at the moment.

    This is just titlists though..the quality of which can vary by a large margin. Plus a fair few of those for Korea and Japan would have been picked up in the modern era with the advent of more divisions, especially at the lower weights, and the alphabet mess that has ensued.

    But that logic gets thrown out the window in the Korea-Philippines debate when you look at the true ATG's the filos have produced..I say true ATG because people have different interpretations of the term ATG but I think there is little doubt that Villa, Elorde and Pac qualify.

    Cool, I was thinking about quality rather than quantity to begin with. There are many champions that have not really had the quality. Yeah I see your point, I agree that the Philippines by far has had the much better quality of fighters.
