What kind of buys do you think Primetime will get for this? Surely the punters that were going to buy it will already be there as McDonnell's following is not that big at all and I think he will not fill out the Keepmoat Stadium. Also Ricky Burns fighting at the same time must have quite an effect. Burns is more popular, more exciting and avaiolable on a channel that is more accessible to the public. I really hope he wins, becomes successful and then proves me wrong but I just feel he is going to be seen by less than 15,000 (including those there in Doncaster) and will be beaten by a relatively unkown (a al Cox vs Obodai Sai). Open to criticism...
welcome to the forum. Ticket sales are supposedly poor, less then 6000, and I can't imagine more than that many will shell out for the PPV. If 90% of this forum are not going to watch it, don't expect any others to budge.
People feel bad for mcdonnell, but does he really, truly deserve to fight for a world title?? Is he really world class?? I don't know the division enough to comment, but times I've seen him he looks european at best, which isn't a bad thing but he defo didn't look world title worthy. Only few years back he was lucky against ian napa.
This would of been great as the 2nd fight on the Burns bill the sooner UK promoters get over there ego's and work together the better.
Its got nothing to do with egos, its got nothing to do with promoters or TV rights but it has everything to do with what the fighter wants. McDonnell wanted it in Doncaster and at the Keepmoat (for whatever reason) and Hobson delivered the kids dream. This is probably going to be his one and only shot at something big and he wanted to do it at home, and not stuck on the undercard of another fight in front of a bunch of people who don't really give a ****.
