I'm a Brit, and got excited after Khan won Olympic Silver, and then went pro. However, like many, I quickly grew to dislike his cocky manner, lack of humility and his over bearing family/management. However, he turned me around after the Prescott upset when he appeared to knuckle down, moved himself to the US with Roach, and started fighting real opposition, and seemed to be back on track. Unfortunately, in the last few months he has clearly been believing his own hype too much. This crap about fighting Mayweather within 12 months, telling Manny to retire etc. etc. Clearly a couple of decent rounds sparring against Manny convinced him he was something he clearly wasn't. Now, something has clearly gone on during the Peterson fight, but the bottom line is that if the kid was half the fighter he promised to be, it wouldn't have even been close. And if he and his family weren't so greedy they would have taken the fight to Vegas and avoided the home town shizz that went on. Half of me hopes Peterson puts him on his ass in any re-match, but unfortunately i can see a wide UD next time from a more cautious and focused Khan. He's clearly got ability, but I just don't think he'll ever get real love from the fans after all this crap.
err, claimed he was ready to take Mayweather in 2012, despite never having never fought at WW, and having been pushed around at LW. Having stated in interviews that he was always on top of Manny in Sparring but said he wouldn't fight him as he didn't want to put Roach in that position. Clearly in his own mind he thought he was at an equivalent level to the two best P4P fighters of the last decade. Cocky for a kid who had had one real top level fight, with Maidana, and has never been near an elite level fighter outside of sparring.
Amir Khan has flaws but I think he can overcome them. He lost the Paterson fight because he let Paterson out work him. When there was no reason to do so. I think he was trying to prove he can take a punch that the Prescott fight was a fluke. Perhapps it was but what are you going to prove in letting a guy with a 50% ko ratio hit you. I really think the Prescott bout has had a nagitive long term effect on Khan. In that he will try to prove it was a fluke as oppoesed to dealing with the task at hand. If he fails to get past this he is going to lose again. Don't get me wrong he's going to win more often than he loses and will likely hold champinships at 147, 154 and poissibily 160 to go with the ones he won at 140. As for the point deductions that cost him the fight on the scorecards. 9/10 points are not taken away for holding your oppoents head down. However it is still against the rules. When the refree took the point away the first time. He should have adjusted and not done that again, yet he did do it again and lost another point. I think Khan is going to have a very good carer but he has flaws that are going to cost him again.
Khan also got alot of needle from British fans for skipping the domestic route, he jumped over guys like John Thaxton and John Murray, I don't think he'd of lost to either of them, but he'd of been much better prepared for the way Peterson fought, if he had.
Khan is just a dirty fighting loud mouth ***** who will never amount to more than a poster boy for muslims and some brits.
[ I think Khan is going to have a very good carer but he has flaws that are going to cost him again.[/QUOTE] I agree that Khan is going to have a very good carer. He'll need a carer if he keeps on going life and death with every half decent fighter he faces!
Khan is a great fighter but he isn't ready for the elite just yet, we will have to see how he handles the 147 division, if his chin can handle the big punchers @ 147.
Saying you want to fight the best and he gets called cocky. look at your avatar, that ginger mother****er career ends on may 5th if he sacrificed to floyd. Alvarez hype train is already ended after 6k turned up to his last cherry pick fight and were chanting "chavez, chavez" at the end. :deal
Amir Khan is certainly talented but no where near as much as he thinks he is. His attitude also makes him thoroughly unlikeable. I'm British btw.
“A Mayweather fight, you know that can happen in the next 9 to 12 months. It’s a fight that the public wants – it’s a public demand fight and also boxing fans would love to see that fight instead of Mayweather fighting someone they know he’d beat. “Against me Mayweather will have problems and it will be a tough fight for him. By the time that fight will come, I’ll be 25 – I’ll be more mature, stronger, more experienced. It will be perfect for me.” Khan in Boxing News last year. Having ambition is fine. Self belief is fine. This is just delusional, and i'm convinced it contributed to his poor performance against Peterson
I wasn't really too fussed about him initially. Seemed too arrogant and cocky. The Prescott incident changed him, gave him some humble pie and I started to like him. He seemed more down to earth after that and seemed a good role model. More recently I agree he's got too cocky again, and I don't like him trying to prove he's got a chin in the ring. Also not keen on some of his whining after the Peterson fight (it was close but I think Peterson won) but having said that, I like that he's spoken up and highlighted Hatman and some questionable activity just outside the ring that night. I'm British btw.
Khan seemed to lack power against Peterson and his inside fighting wasn't the best. Not sure that he has what it takes to be a superstar.
