Bellew suffers from what Macklin and Cleverley both do - they just don't use the jab enough. Fights can be won on that punch and Bellew doesn't snap it out with any consistency. I'd like to see him start fights without throwing a right hand: just throw the jab and the lead left hook. Get the distance, soften the opponent up, then start mixing lefts and straight rights. Too often he just goes straight into banger mode and, against better opposition, he'll get battered. He's getting knocked down by average opposition - doesn't bode well for when he steps it up. And that's a shame - he seems like a good guy.
You are correct his moaning is like a spoilt kid , but as I say a stronger coach would tell him to " SHUT the ' F " up" and get on with it . He s a big fish in a little pond and gets away with this behaviour . it will be the downfall of him , lets hope he sees sense ???
The left hook was ridiculous! Its hard not to be a fan of punchers because of the drama they bring. I think he needs more variety, more feints and false information, because opponents are going to be wary of the power anyway. But it seems to me with punchers they are in love with their power and just want to pour it on!! What did Charlie Goldman say..... a punch is a shortcut to the money!
hes fighting better opposition than cleverley and also, cleverley doesnt have any core power. clev wont make it to world level... mark my words!!
I would say Clev is fighting guys that suit him more. Guys that haven't shown him anything different and just fell in line with Clev's style. Bellew's fighting guys who are awkward (Ajisafe) and dangerous (Ovil). On paper Clev has been bigger names/records but Tony's doing it the hard way and if he can improve on a few area's he will be all the better for it.
I moaned once about being butted, Fair?? He opened my eye up with his head!! From then on I didn't moan once!! I did it back!! Arnie screamed to me not to feel sorry for myself and I didn't, I bullied the bully from round 3 onwards, Im one of several good fighters in Arnies gym so big fish small pond is wrong?? I am learning my trade against good more experinced fighters who are highly avoided as is Ovill McKenzie!! You forget he spanked everyone in prizefighter and demolished Billy Boyle quicker than Cleverly!!! McKenzie is a good fighter just ask his peers!! I took him apart after 2 rounds and got through a 2 rounds of hell and come back at him for more!! Yes I made mistakes and yes my defence was found wanting at times BUT I DID adjust and I DID listen and I DID win.. Thanks for ya omments and I take on board what ya saying but Im a man an blaming someone else for some mistakes I made is a cowards way out imo!!
Bellew your arrogance is becoming a bit grating. You didnt take anyone apart after 2 rounds. Yes you were winning but there is a difference
Not arrogant at all!! One thing Im not, Im saying I was winning from 3rd round onwards!! I dont felt he won a round from the 3rd onwards!! Like I said he got me with a huge shot I didn't see in the second but my eyes were ound and I fired back, You misinterpret what I say as arrogance, Im telling you from my point of view mate, Like I say though its one thing watching and another thing being in there it really is, it's like watching live and on tv its totally different it really is.... Like i said its all about opinions and while I may not agree with some everyone is entitled to there own
Tony i know what the main problem was for your slow start when you got in the ring you werent able to bounce off the ropes on each side because of the ring girls holding the flags i think you only got one bounce in tbh it explains everything people need to lay off :good
