Its either ignorance or arrogance that you possess . Watch the fight and your demeanour , like many of your fights your like a spoilt kid when it aint goin your way . Took him apart after 2 rounds ??? You were lucky to be awake after 2 rounds and still have a career so look at why you got caught and how you got caught . Mc kenzie is a good fighter but you are better , yes he s well avoided and you did it the hard way , but doin it the hard way will only get you so far . Yes you need to learn but are you able to learn from your mistakes cos it gonna cut short your career if you dont get back to the basics ( hands tight and high , good jab etc ) .
I thought this fight was stopped early. Credit Bellew for the comeback but i must say i thought it was a poor stoppage, Ovill looked solid on his feet after the knockdown and was still live in the fight.. Having said that i think Bellew has the potential for a really exciting career. He's not world class just yet but he's still young so there's plenty of time to focus and improve, and these types of fights can only be good for him. Best of luck Tony!
Tony There seems to be loads on here with advice for ye less then 18hrs after the fight Iv only one thing to say and its well done lad you know what worked and what doesnt enjoy your win Lad
1st time Ive seen him last night, and other than the outstanding recovery from the 2nd knock down am not at all impressed, oh and his conditioning is obviously very good. I dont think he is the puncher he believes. Decent puncher yes, world class puncher, I dont believe so. That may have been due to his legs being gone from the knockdowns, but until McKenzie was so obviously knackered, his punches had no effect. McKenzie only had the left hook/right cross combination, and he couldnt miss with it early. For someone who believes he is the best to be bashed around early by someone so limited would worry me. As I say, its the 1st time Ive seen him, and possibly that was just a horrible style match up, and an off night in one, but my opinion is that he will never be a real world champion, as Pascal/Dawson/Hopkins etc would be way to much for what I saw last night.
An awful lot of people running there fingers off about Bomber/Arnie here with new accounts and virtually no other posts ???
I think it's wrong to moan about Arnie, at the end of the day Tony is the one that gets in the ring, he obviously has ability as otherwise Frank Warren wouldn't rate him and neither would others in the know, he just doesn't show it in the ring for me. I appreciate any gameplan he did have may have gone out the window after the knockdowns but he needs to rise above the fact his pride is dented and get on with it. I want to see him strategically breaking opponents down, using his boxing ability instead of looking for the KO. If he doesn't learn to do this there is only so far his punch will take him.
Feel sorry for Arnie he's getting fair bit of stick. He's a young coach and really wants to do well and is learning more and more. All coaches make mistakes and have to evaluate there sessions at the end. To think about if they coached well enough etc and when it comes to fight night they have to perform aswell. They have to give good advice and present it well. I'm sure Arnie does this i get that impression he really wants to be like Roach, Richardson etc. Maybe he gets to caught up in fight because he's close to Tony, I didn't appreciate Frank having his say in Ajisafe fight. I know he also cares for Tony but let Arnie do his work. I wouldn't appreciate it that's for sure.
I don't think he'll go beyond Euro level. He doesn't seem to be imrproving. I wish him all the best though and hope he proves me wrong.
tony first of all well done mate, always happy to see a fellow scouser doing well even if you are a blue!! I think people offering advice to Tony about his defence is spot on, sorry mate but you do look a bit easy to hit at times. However, I find some of the comments on here embarassing in regards to having a pop at his attitude, calling him arrogant. Fighters like Tony have to sell their fights, being big talkers is part of the game, personally I think we should be grateful we have someone who is prepared to come on here and try and connect with the fans and talk about the sport we all love, how many footballers do this for example?!
