Talk about freezn' your blood, S-B, ya gotta see Peter Falk as Abe Reles in MURDER INC. -- the quintessential cold-blooded killer.
Saw it. Loved it! Falk was great as "Kid Twist" Pittsburgh Phil, Red Levine, Dasher Abbandando, Chicken-Head Gurino, Blue Jaw Magoon, Happy Maione, Mendy Weiss.....all scary dudes.....
The Gambino's were number two in the NYC LCN power rankings, correct? I think they stacked up like this, for power, size, wealth and influence: 1. Genovese 2. Gambino 3. Colombo 4. Bonano 5. Luchese I've read that by the late '70s, the Lucheses were supposedly no more powerful than a big street gang. They had lost so much influence that guys were turning down chances to get made by them. Roy DeMeo is just one example of an up-and-coming star who said "no thanks" to the Lucheses. My guess is that Carlo Gambino and Chin were neck-and-neck for shrewdness and overall competency. You are correct that the feds managed to put the screws to the Gambinos only once Gotti was in control.
I was standing on the corner of 59th 'n Central Parc West when Joe Colombo was assassinated on the stage in the park at a rally of the Italian Anti Defamation League. It was chaos. People scattering in every direction.
Wow...that's intense. Colombo was succeeded by Carmine "The Snake" Persico, followed by his son "Allie Boy" Persico, correct? I heard that Carmine Sr. survived something like 30 murder attempts.
