People avoiding this post like the plague. A week ago the forum was bombarded with Sanches posts. His great chin...hes the greatest featherweight...hes the greatest this and that. Everything but walk on water yet now only a handful have the courage to pick a winner here. Pathetic if u ask me!

Interestingly, I would take Pedroza to beat SANCHEZ. Pedroza s movement, odd punching angles and brutal body punching I think upsets Salvador s analytic mind and style. If Pedroza and Sanchez had been just 3 & 5 years earlier respectively, you could have had a threesome of Pedroza SANCHEZ and Argu`ello. Although I feel Arguello may be better, at featherweight he could be be. outbxed. As shown by Marcel and Olivares. On a side point, I collect boxing t-shirts and recently got a beautiful Olivares one in grey and an orange Salvador SANCHEZ one that says the Son of Mexico and has him celebrating the Gomez victory. I have 2 Arguello shirts, but sadly no Pedroza. PINTOR, Duran, Monzon and Chavez and Maidana too, but need Cuevas and Galindez to round out my latin collection. Ever see any let me know.

It's just that alot of us know how great Saldivar was as well. This is an extraordinarily diffucult one to pick. Ok I'll bite. Sal edges this due to his prime granite chin.

    Well, here goes...
I see this fight going the 15 round distance..and both were both were made for this distance IMO...both had this low heart rate and endless stamina. I see Sanchez as a mini Monzon in that he had this unnatural cool about him and a calculating mind like Monzon as well. Sanchez was perhaps a bit more pleasing to the eye aesthetically and was a bit more graceful with his footwork, but nonetheless, there were many similarities. Saldivar was relentless and bull strong, like a mini Marciano, but with the ability to box as well when he chose to, or rather, when the occasion called for it, depending on the opponent.
This fight would be a tactical, round after round masterpiece with both men complementing the other stylewise and bringing out the best in each other. Saldivar would bring to bear more educated pressure than Chava ever experienced, but the cool, calm and collected Sanchez would really prove himself through it all with his world class chin (really!!) and his brilliant counterpunching. He would have taken full advantage of his height and reach advantages as well, but he wouldn't have merely hidden behind them...he was, after all the thinking man's Mexican fighter.
Round after round would be a non-stop clinic...every bit as impressive, if not more than the FOTC..showcasing the best of both warriors...Saldivar and his brutally effective body attack and relentless aggression, and Chava's equally brilliant boxing and counterpunching. Sanchez would take it as well to the body as he would upstairs, but he wasn't in there to just be a shock absorber. The same shots that destroyed the great Bazooka Gomez would be rolled with and taken stoically by the great Saldivar.
Unbelieveably, this fight's pace would have only accelerated as the rounds went by, and by the end of the 12th, both men would be feeling the effects of each other's fists...with Saldivar looking the worst for wear facially, and Sanchez feeling as though his rib cage had been caved in.
Ironically,as both men were like two magnets repelling each other's best efforts, I believe that out of the blue, in either the 13th round, Sanchez would shock the fans by landing a sudden, lightning bolt of a right hand on an incoming Saldivar, decking him in his own corner. Vincente would be sitting in that corner, as much in shock and near exhaustion as from anything else but would be up by "four"...maybe unwisely, instead of taking advantage of a chance to rest. "REST"??? That would have been contrary to that great Mexican warrior's heart of his..."NO EFFIN" WAY!!!" No sooner than the ref administers his count, he sails back into the line of Chava's fire,...nearly going back down again, as SS bounces a follow up barrage....but it's the end of the round...maybe if Sal had landed his bomb a bit earlier...maybe..
The kd seemed to rekindle the fire in both men as they both now are meeting each other dead on, but as always, Sanchez calculates...not even breathing hard..in fact, neither man breathes hard. The last two rounds are maybe the most exciting, with Sanchez perhaps having the best of it...or maybe Saldivar is, depending on how you're looking at it I guess. The bell comes, with both men embracing as the great sportsmen and fellow Mexican warriors that they are.
The narrowest, but deserved decision would be awarded to Salvador Sanchez!!!!!!!!!
This fight would definitely call for a rematch, and you can bet your asses that there would be one!!
Hell, I'll just say it now...IMHO, Salvador Sanchez was the King Of The Feathers...definitely the best Mexican champion,...better than Chavez!!,..and the best 127 lb champion of all, with Vincente Saldivar not far behind,..who would have been his toughest opponent.
Well, as of now, that's my 0.02, to quote my old bud @jowcol....

Great call Clinton!! I agree completely...and despite the great skills, heart, etc.,..of both men, it would probably boil down to Sal's great chin!!:sun_smiley:

Ruben Castillo maintains that Sanchez is very overrated; he has said many times that both Chavez and Arguello were far better than Sanchez.

Personally, I dislike Sanchez so intensely that I could never evaluate him objectively. I have never forgiven him for the Lopez fights. Not even beating Gomez made me stop hating him.

I'm going the other way here. Im going with Salvidar because I just dont know how Sal will deal with the kind of adversity Vincete has.
For instance I still maintain if Nelson had more than a weeks notice and had a full camp not to mention only 14 or so fights I believe he would have taken it based on how the fight went.
Sal didn't look good against Ford and ordinary against Castillo.
I'm going with Salvidar by very close UD.
I also feel Arguello takes him too.
    Pedroza 50/50
Now this is no knock on Sal as he is one of the greatest fighters I ever saw and was a true favorite of mine as a young man. I really looked forward to his fights. But I'm trying to be less sentimental in my picks now a days.
    My 2 cents also.
BTW RC that was one of the best posts ever!!
    Thanku brother!
