Burt... was it a world champ he beat?

Lots of fighters have gone abroad, ko'd a world champ - and then returned home to their own country. But the thing about booze and broads makes me want to say Mickey Walker - who went to London and ko'd European champion Tommy Milligan, after which he returned back to the US. But not, I suspect, before some wild partying had been taken care of!

But if "champ" means world champ, Walker can of course not be what you are looking for.

B, need I say you are correct..It was the truly great Mickey Walker, who with his drinking paisan went to London, flattened British champion in
sensational fashion, indulged in booze and broads, and with depleting funds and a hangover returned to the USA...As Robert DeNiro said in
    Analize This, B, your good ! b.b.

I knew Mickey Walker very well, But I didn't think you wanted him as he was the Champion of the World at the time he fought Milligan.

Walker was one of the best.

I didn't want to mention Walker was world Middleweight at the time he kod Milligan, until hint time...
HH it was some honor for you to have known Mickey Walker..Walker was one of a kind...My dad saw him when Walker fought the old Jack Britton,
in NY.He loved the Toy Bulldog and of course Harry Greb, my absolute
    favorite fighter...b.b.

Yes, they were both 2 of the Greatest!

But when you say "knocked out the champ" it means to me, that your talking about a World Champ, like when Siki knocked out World Champ Carpentier, then got drunk and fooled around with the ladies.

I first met Walker when I was a kid, then later on he use to come to several Veteran Boxing meetings and affairs.

Yes H, i should have been more precise, about Milligan being the British champ.
The closest connection i had to Mickey Walker was when I was a youngster , my dad and I met Soldier Bartfield in my Uncles diner in Canarsie, Ny in the 1946-47 timeframe..As I posted before, Bartfield grabbed me in a clinch and rattled my ribs playfully. He was about 55 years old then but it hurt me,until my dad pulled me away...Later on I
learned that Bartfield fought Harry Greb about 5 times ,and Benny
Leonard and maybe Mickey Walker...My claim to fame is that I was in a clinch with a guy who fought Harry Greb, many times...Even at his age
Bartfield was STRONG...About that time I also shook hands with another
tough fighter of Greb and Walkers era. Italian Joe Gans, who fought
Bartfield and other fighters of that Golden Age..He was then working at
    Feltmann's in Coney Island...b.b.
