Dont know why everytime I read about Vinny Maddalone I always hear such rediculous phrases as, "The always game'' or "The ever so dangerous" Vinny Maddalone. I have even read articles on this very site relating to him as the real life rocky...??? You have gotta be shitting me people. I have watched Maddalone fight for years and the man is dirt as a fighter. EVERY time the man has attempted to step up in class hes got his ass handed to him. Washed up Holyfield clocked his ass, Al Cole got him in his first attempt to step up, Boytsov got him, Mr Never Was Minto did it twice, Cruiserweight Adamek did it, and Cruiserweight Mormeck did it. Dont know why in hell people would even attempt to consider him as somewhat of a name on a boxing resume. The man hasnt fought **** or accomplished much more as a fighter. In his 24th fight as a professional he was fighting people such as the miraculous Ronnie Smith with a very respectable resume and gleaming record of 6-31? What a joke...retired Vinny.
    :hi:

...He's a journeyman. Are you insulting a journeyman for being a journeyman? That's not particularly fair, is it?

Not insulting him as a journeyman because I dont even do him the pleasure of ranking him that high. A journeyman is at least a threat to other fighters or has at least beaten a decent fighter. Maddalone represents neither. Has not beaten a single fighter of note...period.

Because even if he doesn't win, he comes to win. Some guys don't. I've never heard anyone ever refer to him as a contender.

What is the ****in' mystery, here?

Maddalone is sorta your typical American Heavyweight now, in the way that he is not very good.

Ok so Vinny hasnt got the talent to make it right to the top BUT he's still brave enough to get in the ring with the fighters you mentioned beat him and give it a go. Why you hating? Doesn't Vinny deserve a chance to make bread? Never heard him say he was the best in the world.

Of course he gets the chance to make bread and I do consider him a brave fighter if you will. I just cant stand it on this site when people talk of him like hes some worthy note of reference after someone bounces him off the canvas like a basketball.

I gave him a fightin chance against Adamek, but I think most knew what the outcome would be.

Vinnie's not a tomato can, he's actually a reasonably serviceable journeyman. A tomato can is a guy who shows up and doesn't put forth much effort before losing. Think Julius Long.

The drama created by Maddalone vs Minto 1 made for a really fun fight, especially for ESPN. Yes, it's true the dude was and is a walk forward robot, but the industry feels that he's worth some praise for giving us an entertaining fight. I don't think anyone really believes he's all that good.

Now Sam Peter might get a fightin' chance. But I think we all know what the outcome would be.

    :good

He's sort of like a poor man's Tony Galento in a lot of people's eyes. A big, tough Italian who isn't that good, but will still try to at least kick your ass.

Maddalone is a guy who if fighting anywhere around you, you should go cause it will be an entertaining match. So to that, cheers to Vinny.

Dunno why all hate on guys who aren't top 10 or 'journeyman', etc. I've seen more exciting fights between 2-4 vs 5-5 guys so many times on local cards.

Vinny is more fun to watch then most of the heavies out there. He is fan friendly.

Straw man thread. Thread starter created a scenario that didn't exist and then railed against it.
Vinny Maddalone is well known because (as someone else has already pointed out) he's gonne try like hell to win. He's probably not going to when he steps up to the higher caliber, but he sure as hell ain't coming to the dance with that attitude. He's coming to try his best to overcome the odds.
I might add that he was beating Minto decisively in their first fight when he got KOd. If he hadn't been such a warrior, and if he had taken his foot off the gas and coasted that last round, he would have beaten Minto. But he went right in and kept slugging. Unfortunately for him he got caught. But that's the reason people like him.
