Both boxers are similar in performance and both have beaten quality opponents. Good matchup. who do you pick to win?
That would be a fun little brawl that one. Mayorga gives anyone a hard time but Paz is by far the better credentialed fighter. Anyone who won a title at lightweight and challenged for titles all the way up to super middle and into his 40's is a true fighter.
well one thing is certain and that is that it would have been a war. if your talking about both at there absolute best then id go for pazzienza by stoppage in about 9
Yeah Paz was okay, but going life and death against an ancient Roberto Duran puts his lifetime legacy into perspective. Mayorga has become a stiff to the stars. But his wins over Vernon Forrest seem to overshadow anything that Paz accomplished. I'd pick Mayorga in a bloody, drawn out brawl.
I can see them trading blows after blows, Mayorga throwing wild punches and Pazmania going all out. In 8 round somewhere, Paz gets his dream punches and celebrates.
Paz could box when he wanted to. His third fight with Haugen was on the other night and he moved and boxed his way to victory. Plus he could brawl with anyone and had a good chin. Only a prime Roy Jones ever stopped him. The only factor here is that Paz was his best at 135 and Mayorga is a welterweight, but even considering that, Paz was simply more talented and had every bit the amount of balls that Mayorga did/does. In fact balls are all Mayorga has, and that wouldn't be enough. Paz by decision.
Paz best days were at lightweight but he had success as high as 168 where he was ranked until he neared retirement. He had good boxing skills, good handspeed, great head movement, was slick but had a buzzsaw exciting style. He'd make you respect him, and he had a great chin. Mayorga is too limited and predictable to beat Pazienza, who was only stopped by a prime Roy Jones, and rarely was outbrawled even by larger men.
Thats was a just g up. Im not going to talk bad about the Paz, he was an awesome fighter. HOWEVER, I am a little suspicious about how he managed to go from challenging for a title at 140 looking pretty buff and strong, then within 6 months I think it was, he was challeging for a regional 154 title and he looked pretty damn solid in that fight aswell. My mate has a large collection of Vinny Paz fights so Ive seen a few. I mean Vinny was a freak dont get me wrong but it makes you wonder.
