I mean truly vintage `1982` version of Pryor... How do you see this going ? Pryor (a swarming puncher who could box) against the smooth, cool defensive skills of PBF. Pryor, who had an incredible work rate and he could crack as well. I think he sets the pace early and backs PBF constantly. The shoulder roll is virtually ineffective against the swarming, non stop attack of Pryor. PBF does NOT have enough pop on his shots to gain Pryor`s respect,so he cant keep a comfortable distance that he needs to get off his shots. Pryor had very buys and fast hands so I feel that PBF has problems with that as well. I like Pryor buy 12 UD or possible lt. stoppage (if scheduled for 15) I see Pryor keeping Floyd uncomfortable all night long and having to much will, intensity and busy hands for PBF to deal with. Scary though ,consider how much trouble PBF had with Castillo ! If people are going to start claiming that PBF is an ATG. Lets start matching against some recent ATGs and see how he fares...
Very tough fight to call. Logic tells me that Mayweather the more technical boxer would be able to use his defense to defend Pryor's non stop punching and pick his spots throughout with accurate punching landing many clean shots each round on Pryor who would be open because of his non stop attack, to win a decision. But Pryor at his best just simply refused to lose and was a punching machine I could see his constant punching keeping Mayweather on the defensive enough for Pryor to win more rounds or I could also see Pryor throwing so many punches and with his awkward style and angles penetrating Floyd's great defense and doing damage. Its really a tough fight to call very different styles there are a few scenario's I can picture overall I'd have to bet on Floyd but by no means would I count out The Hawk.
I am surprised, that more people didn`t weigh in on this one... I think it`s interesting to talk about how Floyd would actually do against some recent great fighters...Next on the agenda would be PBF against Duran and Hearns...
A great fight, but surely a win for the Hawk. Pryor isn't going to leave Floyd alone. There will be some crisp counters from the Money man as Aaron swoops in; an uppercut, a cross, but when did that ever stop Pryor from insisting you fight his way? Not only were his combinations obnoxious but he could even be cute. Floyd may be surprised to see Pryor drift off to ring centre and start popping the jab. Inevitably he'd bring the heat again, but boxing would play its part in confusing the whereabouts of an antidote. Floyd gets fighters to yield to him by punishing mistakes. Roy Jones used to do this and it can make a fighter grow self-concious, at which point it's game over. That head is gonna bobble again, but he's not going to stop applying the pressure, and not the clueless (Robert Guerrero) type, but intelligent pressure. Floyd will be forced to triple his output to stop losing the rounds on work rate. In turn his composure would suffer, and then in come the clean punches. Smarts and plenty of grit will prevent him from drowning, but it won't salvage the decision.
Some would suggest 'vintage' Hawk Time was when he was a 135lber. I think Pryor cruelly plays with Lil Floyd at 135, before ending things in a dozen rounds or so.
The hawk wins this I don't need to post a long reply as I would only be repeating ted spoons excellent post although I can see perhaps Pryor forcing a late stoppage 14th round perhaps
Good points TS ! Pryor also had an underrated jab that he used quite well. He was a swarming busy, inside fighter...But, he could box his ass off when he wanted to as well. He threw quicker in combination than Floyd, who is more of a pot-shotter. And Floyd needs hi guy at a comfortable distance for him to pot-shot him. The problem is that Pryor will not give him a comfortable distance to work in...
