Same here! Harakiri, Tokyo Story, and a bunch of Kurosawa films (Yojimbo, High and Low, Ikiru, Ran, etc.) for me.

Tokyo Story was voted the greatest film of all-time by Halliwell's Film Guide (1000 greatest ever) and it's not hard to see why. Maybe the saddest, most moving, relevant film I've ever seen.....

Kenji Misumi, who did several of the Lone Wolf and Cub Series.

Toshiya Fujita directed the tremendous Lady Snowblood, which single handled influenced the Kill Bill movies.

Shun'ya Ito directed several of the Female Prisoner Scorpion series which are fantastic 70's exploitation flicks.

Kaneto Shindo is a fantastic director if you want to watch something fantastic like Ribs already mentioned in Onibaba.

Sadder than the drunken dysfunctional *****, yet truly loving doctor character in Drunken Angel? Reminds me of myself.

No problem, maybe you'll find something new that you'll find to your liking. I'd strongly recommend Lady Snowblood to begin with, probably the easiest film to find now as well. Great place to start.
