VIP Boxing at the Velodrome-12th March 2010
    By Jamie Albrecht

The Manchester fight crowd will be treated to another night of highly charged professional boxing on Saturday evening as Heywood’s Kieran Farrell features in his first six round outing at the Manchester Velodrome, supported by a number of other VIP stars including the long awaited ring return of former British Super-Middleweight ruler Tony Quigley, as he attempts to shake off his recent inactivity before taking part in the forthcoming Prize-fighter tournament on March 23rd. Fellow combatant for the same coveted £ 32,000 tournament prize Joe Ainscough will also fight in a four rounder as a tune up for that show.

Farrell will be taking on the tough Ibrar Riyaz, who has shared the ring with a number of young undefeated operators, the most high profile of these men thus far being current Super-Featherweight champion Liam Walsh.

Such a profile will do little to face the marauding Farrell, whose ferocious nature in the ring shares a perfect rapport with his “Vicious” nickname. “Training has gone really well for this fight, my body work is definitely something I’ve worked well with...I hurt Bobby (Rimmer) with a good body shot the other day when I did ten rounds on the body belt”. Hopefully for the devoted Heywood support, the apparent ruthlessly positive training regime will translate into a result that can boost Farrell’s constantly accelerating career credentials.

The evening is also something of a family affair for the Quigley brothers, as 20 year-old John turns to the professional code in a scheduled four rounder. The Liverpool stylist has been the subjects of much adulation and respect as an amateur, and his transition to the pro code on Saturday will be an event worth watching.

Former WBU Light-Middleweight title challenger Thomas McDonagh also makes the jump into the professional game, this time from the other side of the ropes, when he leads his fighter Aaron Michael Jr. into battle for the first time.

The 10 fight bill also features bouts involving the hard hitting Super-Middleweight Warren Tansey, undefeated Welterweight Austin Hornsby, Chris Betteridge, Kerry Hope, who returns to the British consciousness after a two fight US sabbatical and Martyn Grainger, who will be hunting for redemption after losing out to Hari Miles on points last December.
