GARY DAVIES - Despite giving 4lb in weight on the night away to former British Champion Andy Bell ,he again shown his power with a impressive first round stoppage win . Gary caught Andy early and the signs were there then when he touched down after a left hook connected , the finish was a overhand right that sent Bell flying to the canvas with no thoughts of getting up. KARL PLACE Shown why a lot of boxing plaudits are tipping him as the hottest prospect in the Country. A second round stoppage of Steve Saville was in quicker time than the heavier Frankie Gavin and the lightweight division now know that there is a another serious contender on the way from Manchester . Karl was boxing beautifully in the first hitting and being missed until he hurt Saville and rushed in to cop a left hook that stopped him in his tracks for a few seconds , he quickly regrouped to give out more punishment. He will learn from that and at the start of the 2nd Karl pinned him to the ropes and dropped him with body punches that hurt that much we all knew he was staying down. RICK GODDING Moved to 11-0 with a points win over tricky journeyman William Warburton who absorbed a lot of punches and shown a lot of character in making the final bell. It is time for him to step up now and we have accepted a challenge from Curtis Woodhouse for the Master light welterweight title in April .
Hey stegsie, hope your well pal. place continues to impress but he was seriously lacking defensively last night I thought. I think he's going to struggle at domestic level. That said some of his work was excellent. What was his amateur pedigree?
Cheers for you comments, pal - it's always appreciated. Karl entered the schoolboy ABA's in only his second fight. As a senior he boxed for his country before he turned pro in 2008. In Karls own words he was really wanting to turn pro ASAP, and was more interested in winning a British title than going onto Olympic / commonwealth amateur honours. Is one to watch for sure; and think he'll learn a lot from last nights performance. :bbb
Karl place impressed me last night although as said above defensivly he has a bit to learn. Was impressed with godding not seen him live before but liked his movement and his sound technique
i liked the way Place switched from head to body but as jeff said his hands need to go back higher after combo's or its going to be goodnight time shortly.best boxer on the TV last night imo
I saw his debut and this is what really impressed me then...normally a debutant will just try to knock the other guys head off (nerves probably) but Place picked his shots and took his opponent apart, calm as you like
regarding karl place record 8wins 8fights 5second rd kos against fighters with wining records saville 1st boxer land decent punch proves place as a chin can box great when he wants to use it but so much power 21yrs old future champion no dout about it
I was there at Leigh fri, great show & really enjoyed it!! Most contests were 'contestable' and the lads had a good work out!! Great show & great value for money when you consider there was a good few 'fights' on offer rather that 'opponents'!!!
