VIP PROMOTIONS AT BLACKPOOL TOWER , SATURDAY THE 24TH JANUARY 2009 BRAIN ROSE Had a rare stoppage win in the 2nd round after dropping John Harrison several times in the first. Brian has now gone full time as a Pro and the extra time now allocated for rest looked to pay dividends as The Lion put in his best performance to date and will now be stepped up. SCOTT QUIGG Started off tentatively against last minute substitute Karl Allen who had nearly a stone in weight which meant for the cautious start. After 2 rounds Scott was in the rhythm and boxed a lot better getting of the shots that have made him a prospect to watch for the future. CARL DILCS - Boxed very well in his warm up for the Prize-fighter show on the 20th February which he will now enter in a very confident mood. The normally durable mark Nielsen had shown his grit for 3 rounds albeit taking a small boxing lesson , in the fourth Dynamite exploded his left hook and it was all over. CHRIS JOHNSON - Was the only VIP looser of the night when he gave a very flat performance and was out boxed by Geraint Harvey in every round. MATHEW ASKIN Had a sensational 1st round when he decked the tough Nick Okoth and swarmed all over him with quality picked punches. He slowed down in the next few rounds but produced a nice array of boxing skills to win every round , he later explained that a shoulder injury had occurred in the first KIERON FARRELL The self acclaimed 18 year old Pocket Rocket is not short of confidence and displayed a boxing maturity beyond belief for someone who looks like a 12 year old and would be more suitable to the name Baby assassin . He jumped through the ropes to cheers from his massive following and the Bugsy Malone tune DO YOU WANT TO BE A BOXER bouncing round the tower , the answer was an emphatic yes as he pounced on Gary Shield from the bell and continued to batter him until the referee called a halt in the third. This was a very good debut and VIP may have launched another future champion. NICK QUIGLEY - Another pro debut saw a comfortable 60 - 54 win over Jimmy Briggs . Nick who is from the fighting family of Quigleys in Liverpool and had both father and brother Tony in his corner produced a steady if not spectacular start to his career and will improve , he fought despite just getting over the flue. TERRY FLANNIGAN The 3rd VIP debutant on the night produced fight of the night against Leeds debutant Danny McDermott who only took the contest at 12am on the day and must be proud of the display. Terry wore the new Seconds Out shorts with the name of producer Barney across the front and this punch up will feature on the show next week with Terry in the studio. Barney is now looking for other local boxers to wear the shorts in the future and carry on an undefeated start for the red and back pair designed to the style of Jamie Moores shorts , it certainly will take a good fight to match this one. Make sure you tune in to Seconds out on Channel M next week for this fight and also watch out for the Manchester fight night show featuring this bill on the 7th February 2009.
