There are some positives and negatives in respect of the Khan v Gomez match up.

Gomez is a known name, an experienced pro with a good KO record that can bring pressure in & out of ring - pre fight build up should be entertaining!

Super featherweight! Been fairly inactive - only 6 fights in 3 years. Form - of those 6 fights lost half (the more meaningful title fights) by stoppage.

Had stoppage wins against Daniel Thorpe and Youssef Al Hamidi but was apparently amazingly easy to hit when in against Thorpe and struggled badly with Al Hamidi. Other recent win was on points against Baz Carey (already mentioned in this thread). All these three wins were 6 rounders.

Interesting observation - Khan fought Carey and Thorpe in only his 2nd and 4th fights and Gomez has fought them both in the last year.

kid diamond hasnt got such a great chin on him, he was badly floored in his last fight against a jouneyman with an average KO %. Nate was making him do the tango in the 10th round before he got TKO'd, diamonds KO % isnt that great either, size goes to khan wouldv been a great fight and khan wouldv probrably got a decent win against a top 15 fighter

apart from durability what would rees bring that gomez woundnt?
i have to agree its a poor match up but it'll be interesting to see how khan manages without harrison if the fight last a few rounds

Not sure if this question was directed at me but I'll answer it anyway! I never bought into the speculation that Rees would be next for Khan. Too soon after his loss to Kotelnik - couldn't really see Warren risking one of his own fighters likely suffering back to back defeats in quick succession.

Its an interesting match up for sure!

Depending what Gomez has left theres the remote possibility of an upset if he can hit Khan hard and early.

Then again Gomez could suffer a brutal defeat and be humiliated like Earl.

Either way I don't think this fight will last many rounds.

will get my heart racing more thats for sure. St Clair came to win, Khan was to good for him.

If it goes 6 rounds, its gonna be 6 brutal rounds for Gomez.

St Clair came to survive... at what stage did he ever try and take the play away from Khan?

He had tactics to go for Khan after 6-7 rounds, thinking he would tire and make mistakes, at which point he would capitalise. Khan did not allow it.

Fact is 4 of khans last 5 opponents would beat Gomez in my opinion. it might be exciting for a few rounds, but its a big step down.

I really hope Jeff is right but I'm a little concerned with Michael's power at lightweight. Against Carl his punches did not seem to have the desired effect - early on he was all over Johannesson but did not look like having him in any real trouble. Since his comeback Gomez seems to lack the dig he had before his break. Kahn is bigger and stronger than Carl, and I fear he will soak up the punishment and take advantage of Michael when he gets tired. Obviously I hope I am wrong and one of those trademark Gomez left hooks lands flush!!

Oh and for the people saying Gomez doesn't deserve the chance and will get hurt badly :patsch

Warren hasn't made this match to see Khan lose.

I don't think he deserves the chance. If your gonna say people deserve a shot because of how hard they work then Neil Warnock would be england manager. (cannot think of a good boxing example)

    Exactly, GazOC!:yep

    :thumbsup

If he had wanted to throw Khan to the wolves to test him, he'd have picked Romanov.

I think if Neil Warnock was England manager they would be a much better side.

Boycott this fight. Warren is trying to 10000 tickets with this con job. He's already sold 4000.

Romanov"s good but I think Thaxton made him better than he really Is. Khan pummels slow paced guys.
