Christmas C racker, December 18th 2010. VIP BOXING By Jamie Albrecht Wigan boxers Sean Crompton and Craig Boardman will be looking to contribute to the cheer of the looming Christmas break by adding to their flawless records in front of a home crowd at the Robin Park Arena on Saturday 18th December. Crompton, a fledgling light-heavyweight with two wins on his boxing CV (one by knockout) will venture on his third paid start against Derbyshire’s Elvis Dube, whilst Boardman will face off against well travelled fellow Welterweight Jason Nesbitt. Crompton will surely hold the greater degree of confidence in comparison with Elvis Dube heading into his bout. On examination of the respective warrior’s records it is apparent that Crompton is blessed not only with the greater success rate, with Dube winning a solitary one fight from six in contrast to Crompton’s ledger of two wins in two (with the former’s victory coming with a first round TKO against Marco Stephenson), but also with the momentum that can sometimes arise with a first knockout victory. Crompton was extended to the third session in achieving this before halting the unfortunate Irfan Malik in his last outing in June at the same venue. Despite this most recent showing of power, Crompton was keen to stress that such tactics were not going to become the strategy implemented in every contest in which he features. “I’ve been focusing on punching in fast bursts in the gym, and maybe showing off a bit of everything I can do... I’m just going to take each round as it comes without looking specifically for the big KO”. Craig Boardman, another of the Bobby Rimmer stable harbouring the potential benefits of a home crowd advantage encounters a seasoned veteran of over one hundred bouts when he boxes off against Jason Nesbitt. This statistic did little to faze Boardman, who it must be noted, went about his training with a particular speed and sharpness when watched, attributes that prompted questions to Boardman about his seemingly teak tough opponent, a man who has been the victim of an early loss a mere eleven times out of the considerable one hundred and nineteen setbacks he has suffered. “I’ve been concentrating on my speed as well as stamina in case the fight goes the four rounds (distance). We know that Nesbitt can take punches and has a decent chin so I’ll be looking to out speed and outwork him instead of just trying to stop him”.
