Nice one Stegsie. Forgot to ask after the show in August, how did Stafford look in Southport when he fought (had to check on Boxrec, thought it was gonna be in Blackpool? Must be getting my shows mixed up)? And any future fights lined up for him?
I wasn't overly impressed with Stafford to be honest. I remember him as an ama dn he was a biut of a puncher- seemed to labour his way to victory the other night. Nothing exciting or innovative about the way he boxed. :good IMO obviously
Thanks Jeff - that's disappointing. Yeah he was a big puncher in the ams. Too short for cruiser in my opinion, but I always look out for his results and hope he can do something at pro. Career stalled a bit (broken leg I'm told, by Stegsie I think (that's the information was from Stegsie, not the broken leg)). Long time out though between fights so hopefully his performance was down to ring rust.
Yep Staff did break his leg, so had to take some time out of the ring. Apart from my involvement with VIP I am also fortunate enough to train in the same gym as him. I thought his fight in Southport was a decent test to get him back and shake some of the ring rust off. I think Mike is a lot better than that performance though. There were a few decent shots thrown in that fight though, so given time Mike will be much, much more impressive believe me. He is next out on the 29th of November in Colne.
I am a big fan of Sykes. Hopefully he will start to move into the harder domestic fights soon and ,aybe next year a title shot of some sort.
