Taken from http://www.vipboxing.com/news/ Judges, Not Smith, Take Quigleys Title Last Friday was another sad night for British boxing when once again poor scoring lost a British Champion his belt. Paul Smith had talked a lot in the build up to this fight about how Quigley would run and that he could not punch the contest was actually the opposite without Quigley there would not have been a fight. For 10 rounds it was the champion who was forcing the fight and the stats show he threw the most and landed the most punches and where he was never hurt it was clear that Smith was shaken on at least 2 occasions. Paul Smith did force the fight in the 12th Round when Tony was knackered and also for the last minute in the Eleventh following a low blow , does a good 4 minutes win you a title fight ???? it seems the days of where a challenger had to rip the title from a Champion have gone !!! Both fighters did under perform and Tony accepts that he did not do himself justice, but at only fifty percent he knows he still won the fight . He does not have a mark on him and would love the rematch that an embarrassed Frank Warren announced in the ring immediately after the fight , only to state in the press conference 15 minutes later that maybe there will be a rematch Team Quigley are not holding there breath on this one and will be looking to force their way back into a mandatory position. The Boxing board really need to look at these scoring issues and order an immediate rematch.
Dont think it was a robbery lads. Could'nt argue either way. I actually had it even. Smiths work late on obviously edged it for him when Quigley was shagged. Messy, frustrating fight to watch though.
I had it 5-5 goping into the last so Smith won for me JUST. The 3 men next to me had it all different. One had Smith 2 up, one had Quigley 1 up and the other had it a draw. Shows it was a pretty tough one to score
I had Quigly up a round going into the last so scored it a draw. We are hopefully getting a rematch which is great news unless you are unfortunate enough to watch it. Davies was awful.
I watched the Sky showing. I am a big Napa hater but felt he won easy. To be honest I switched off mentally half way through because I thoughT Napa was way ahead and getting better while Davies seemed to punch thin air and look clumsy.
Davie boxed his head off for 5 rounds then the fight started going away from him. I had it something like 116-114 but Davies seemed to do enough. I was very confident he had won and i'm a neutral, I like both fighters so it made no bones to me who won.
Fair enough. I trust your view better than my own at the best of times never mind a fight I only half watched.
I dont think the Smith v Quigley fight was a robbery. A close fight which could have gone either way. Quigley didnt deserve to lose his title. But I can see how it would have been given either way. A lot of rounds that were just too close. I shaded a couple of rounds to Smith during the fight which had him 2 up on my card at the end. But I wouldnt have been surprised to hear any score read out at the end.
