SOUTHPORT SHOW 8TH AUGUST 2009 VIP ended there boxing season with a great show this weekend with all fights being entertaining , results as follows; RICK GODDINS Moved to 9-0 and made a statement of intent in his first 6x3 minutes contest by beating Darren Askew who is also a very good fighter. Rick was a bit edgy in the first round but relaxed to show some classy skills ,with neat footwork and some clever counter punching which out foxed the game Askew who never stopped trying but was proven to be a league below Goddins who looks championship material. CARL DILCS - Also had his first 6 x 3 minutes round fight and boxed well against the game Michael Banbula who came to fight. Carl settled well behind the jab and controlled the fight picking times to let his bunches of punches go. It was ideal preparation for the 19th September when he steps up to title level and meets Sheffields Billy Boyle. MIKE STAFFORD - The local lad had not boxed for 14months and took a while to settle before finding his range to outbox Hastings Rasani in a close points win. CHRIS JOHNSON Lost for the 2nd time to Geraint Harvey who put Chris over in the first and stopped him in the 3rd after putting him over for a second time. LEE JENNINGS - Beat Ibrar Riyaz in a scrap that could have been held in a phone box , both boxers met in the centre of the ring and blasted away at each other non stop over the 4 x 3 mins contest . The quality work came from Lee but credit has to go with Riyaz for staying there and making it a spectacle for the fans. NICK QUIGLEY - The 19 year old moved to 3-0 with another punch up with the experienced Jason Nesbit who ensured Nick did not get it all his own way by firing back numerous overhand rights that were landing and tested the young guns chin. Nick did force the fight all night and hurt Jason in the fourth which saw the wily campaigner spit his gumshield out for a breather. VIPTV All the fights were filmed and will be able to watch on www.vipboxing.tv when it is launched on the 5th October 2009.
It was a good show, I thought Goddings was impressive and so was Quigley. He doesn't look to hit that hard but his body shots were lovely. Johnson could of and should of won.
