Vigril Hill.. Underrated. Im not a huge fan of American Based fighters, but there's one fighter that inspired me into boxing more than anyone. That was Virgil Hill. A American Boxer and a great one at it. Who is Virgil Hill? North Dakota baised boxer with a FANTASTIC career. As many of you know, im a HUGE fan of Virgil Hill. Hill is one of the greatest boxers to step foot in this ring in this decade. This man is a legend. And if you disagree, you don't know your own self. Quicksilver deserves a spot in the Hall Of Fame. His career has been amazing. The man had a GREAT run in the light heavyweight division, as well as cruiserweight division. This man in my eyes is a legend and he deserves a HOF spot with his name on it. "We're leaving together, But still it's farewell, And maybe we'll come back" One of the reasons why I think Hill picked this song becouse HE knew at that point that he was done. He knew that was his last fight. As he was loosing to Arslan, which I was watching live, which I was hopionh he would pull off a win, I couldnt beilve the fact he had such great work rate and great technique for such an old man. Virgil Hill is one of the best fighters in this decade to ever lace the gloves, and you must respekt this. He will be a Hall Of Famer, you wait and see. Please watch the Final Countdown of Virgil here at my upload on youtube: [yt]es6Aq8Gxl-U[/yt] It seriously brings a tear to my eye watching Virgil Hill comming out to this song at this stage of his career. Virgil deserves the respekt needed on this forum.
I definitely respect Hill. He didn't have the style to capture the public's imagination, and he lost when he stepped up against Hearns, Dariusz, Roy and Mormeck, but had a great career. Great win over Maske and his rematch ko of Tiozzo was cool. Most found him boring, but I always liked watching this consumate technician at work. His resume shouldn't get him in the hall, but he's definitely in the hall for classiest fighters ever. You'll never find a nicer guy. Boxing needs more guys like Hill.
Well said my freind. Well said. Unlike most, I found him an exciting fighter with a great perona. He was a great technatical fighter indeed. Hill should be in the Hall for his accomplishments and his class itself. Boxing is dieing for guys like Hill. But really, some of you may laugh at me for liking and following a guy like Hill, but realize it yourself. Hill is the real deal.
It does. Not trying to make this sound gay or anything, but Virgil was one of the reasons I came to this sport. Virgil gets my respect as well as my praise. Hill was one of a kind. I know your a Liston fan...... a Tysaon fanatic.... But me? I followed Virgil Hill. The man who imspired me. Sure, hes not famous like the guys who you liked, but Hill was a great character in a great sport. Hill should deserve your as well as many boxer's respekt.
20 title defenses at LHW (seperate reigns) and a 2 division champ hes def HOF. maybe not first ballot but he will get in
I remember watching some or his early fights on ESPN and becoming a great fan. He smoked the hell out of James Kinchen, and from then on never had another big knock out that I can remember. But he was a terrific boxer, and those North Dakota fans loved him. I wish he would have had a unification against Moorer at the time. He should have brought that underused big punch back when he fought Hearns. Some people said that he was screwed in the rematch against Maske- I didn't see it and have a feeling it is one of those Europe V America judgement calls in which everyone says their guy won. In any event, maybe that will go down as a his sort of special rivalry. Yeah, Hill was a great fighter in his way.
Has he retired for good in the meantime? Though he lost fair and square Hill was quite competitive in his last fight against Firat Arslan.
Wow, a Virgil Hill fan?? I didn't think there were too many of those outside of North Dakota. Hill was a top level fighter in his era, and is borderline HOF, imo. However, considering that they've already inducted glorified clubfighters like Ray Mancini, he belongs.
