Virgil Hill IMO was one of the worst "champions". At the end of the day there wasn't anything behind the curtain. Just South Dakota.
You know nothing about Hill. He went over to Germany an beat Maske. He also beat Tiozzo in France. that is better than anything Hopkins did at light heavy!
Damn...and here i thought I was doing good. I know he had great hair. Maske amd Tiozzo? I'm sure beating those guys gets Hill alot of mileage on the mean streets of South Dakota. Much better than being terrified to engage an old ready to be taken out Thomas Hearns or getting his back broken against Roy Jones. Hill was a hometown network star for awhile, made some $. A poor man's Stevie Johnston.
Maske and Tiozzo, both excellent fighters. You tell me which wins of Hopkins at 175 were better then? You mention Hill's close points loss against Tommy. By the way, Hearns was 32 and great fighter. It is funny you mention this when Hopkins lost twice against Dawson and drew with Pascale. . It is funny you mention the Jones loss when Hopkins himself lost against Jones.
Ugly fight. Hopkins was a higher quality fighter but his Lt Heavyweight record was iffy. The Tarver win was impressive but Tarver was pretty spasmodic. He beat a definitely completely shot Jones, struggled with Glencoffe Johnson etc Leaning towards Hops though. The man was pretty great at dragging one down to his comfort zone. Hill was very good and fought fantastic on his own terms. When he had to adjust he struggled. Hopkins was pretty great at taking one’s assets away from them.
For christ sake Hopkins beat Glencoff at 160! Hill was the better light heavy. The level of incompetence in this thread is unbelievable
You're so competent you can't even follow who the hell he is talking about In far too much of a hurry to bag Hopkins you are
Whatever. Look, Hill has the better resume at light heavy. You seem to be biased as Hopkins is involved. With his low punch out put, how is Bernard going to win a decision?
2 very good fighters with great longevity, but I want to see this fight as much as i want to see a John Ruiz vs Bermane Stiverne and Vaughn Bean vs Chris Byrd double header.
No question Bhop is much better p4p. No question. But is he the better 175 pounder? Dunno as I find them both overrated at 175.
