Ward was being told to by the man (HBO). Like a good boy he falls in line and obeys. Otherwise he could've gone back to fighting on BET.

He was forced by HBO but not to protect GGG. HBO told him flat out if he didn't fight Kovalev he wasn't going to fight on their network again. The guy is still squirming about the Kovalev fight he doesn't want to do it.

By the way Roc Nation doesn't fu*k with Haymon so he can't go there. Roc Nation will want their return on investment from whe they bought out Ward's existing contract. Kovalev fight is that payday. This is a cash out.

Kovalev fight will take years off his life.

What about him having trouble to make 168 and/or daring to be great?!
And what did they need to defend Golovkin for? It's not like he was a 168 lineal champion or beltholder with Ward as his mando like Maravilla's/Cotto's/Canelo's situation. He had never even fought at 168, so there was nothing to protect him from.

 

Golovkin haters will try any over-reaching theory to discredit the man.

I'm best friends with Ward.

Two years ago, we were at Taco Bell. He ordered a triple layer nacho and some cheesy roll ups from the dollar menu. I had a grilled stuffed burrito. But that probably isn't important except he had a diet coke instead of his usual Mountain Dew.

Out of nowhere, he buried his face in both hands and said, "It's killing me to make 168, it's killing me."

I said "but you don't even have a fight coming up."

He got up, and said, "I don't want to be fat, bro."
