Joe Calzaghe hasnt fought one fight against anybody to give an indication that he could manhandle anybody. But I still give him his due as a great boxer. You cant take away what he did in his time and era. But as far as him beating Andre Ward, in my mind, and I believe that Im all the way correct, he would have a problem. We would chew him up. We would chew him up, and thats just a fact.

Roy Jones? Listen, Roy Jones is Andre Wards idol, but I dont have to speak for Roy because Roy said it himself. He was asked a question, Who would have been your most difficult fight in your prime?

And he said, Andre Ward.

So that speaks for itself. So were not going to go there with Roy, because he already spoke on it. He said, That would have been my most difficult opponent, so Roy knows.

Look Joe had a lot of problems with Bernard, and you know a lot of people say were a Bernard Hopkins clone and things like that. There are a lot of attributes that Bernard had that we admire, and there are the cerebral aspects of it, and some of the technical things that he does, and he gave Joe a very difficult time. And Joe never wiped out a division. He waited. Some of his name fights, the fighters were past their prime! And when he had an opportunity to fight the best, he didnt fight the best. He stayed over there in England and he fought who was comfortable for him. Saying that, look! I admire Joe Calzaghe. Im a Joe Calzaghe fan, and Joe Calzaghe was a dominant champion in his era. But as far as my personal opinion, and I think that Im entitled to have my personal opinion like Steve Bunce or anybody else whos a Joe Calzaghe fanin my opinion we would have chewed him up!

How's it a bad comparison? It's actually very fitting, because Calzaghe's Eubank was in fact just as bad as Dawson. Eubank had to take the fight on a week and a half's notice whilst he was preparing for a light heavyweight bout. So at the very last minute he's told he's gotta' go another division down despite having outgrown it (as evident by him going up to cruiser immediately for his remaining fights). He was also, as you've pointed out, clearly past his best.

Dawson on the other end was still in and around his prime, and had a whole camp to work his way down to 168. Not no last minute thing.

Both were in poor condition. I don't think you can look one over the other. Although I personally think Dawson, being still more or less prime, was the harder foe.

Virgil is 100% right. Joe wanted the crown jewels to step up to the plate and never tested himself.

Joe fans are delusional if they think he was even on the radars or levles of prime Jones and Hopkins. Joe knew it himself, hence the "crown jewels" comment.
