A good choice, he's done a good job with Ward and he'll focus on things Khan absolutely must learn (defense, clinching). I'm curious to see the results and I hope he'll take the long and hard road to another championship fight. He needs to change his game plan, have trouble at first but stick to his new way of fighting. That being said, I'd be surprised if he can learn at his age how to roll with punches correctly, as well as improve his footwork to improve his balance. Most of the time, a guy gets hit and he turns back to his old self. Edit : I'd also add that it would be too easy to blame his trainers for his past errors. I've never seen a guy really improving without first admiting his mistakes. I don't think he's humble enough to improve.
Virgil seems like a nice guy; he doesn't talk a lot but when he does it's straight to the point. I hope Amir shows tons of respect to Virgil. When was this annoucment made? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7kKXooR1DM[/ame]
It's a match made in heaven. They both have a tendency to say "we". "We" will fight until the end etc etc, we got caught with a lucky punch..:rofl I can't imagine Hunter abiding Khan's posse of pea-brained hangers on though.
honestly- the best choice he could have made. Ward doesn't have a good chin and look what he's done with Ward. Khan is never going to be elite but I bet Hunter can guide him to another title if matched carefully against guys that cannot punch.
Khan has said that he has flaws in defense, so he can improve defiantly. But must important of all, he's got to learn that when he get hits hard, then don't play macho
I think he plays macho because he doesn't know what else to do. Hopefully Hunter, or whoever he ends up with, can help him in this regard.
I'm not so sure about this. Even while he was sparring to get ready for Dani, his S&C coach, who isn't even a boxing trainer, had the common sense to know Amir shouldn't try any of that brawling crap and voiced his concern. Amir replied with something along the lines of but that's not exciting. Amir is now on the deep end as he looks for a quick fix with defense. Ward is even more vocal than Floyd and Bernard about how it's sheer stupidity to take punishment that could have been prevented just to be cool and macho. Amir is trying to get his whole belief system changed from Mexican Brawler to Slick Black Operative
