You sad, uneducated person. The origin of the quote is " all roads lead to rome" and it predates mayweather by many centuries. You didn't really think the brilliant mind (heavy sarcasm) of Floyd came up with that quote on it's own, did you?

 

Yes the term predates Mayweather Capt. Obvious. Mayweather used the phrase to describe himself as the goal of every boxer to be where he was at. It was one of Floyd's catch phrases, and to a large extent he earned the right to say that. You were using it to describe Triple G's situation, which is not only unoriginal but delusional considering Triple G isn't in the position Mayweather was when he said that.

You're argument was that Canelo needs Triple G, which sounds to me like you don't think Triple G needs to fight Canelo. Triple G not only needs Canelo to become Lineal MW Champion, but he also needs Canelo to make what would be the biggest fight in boxing. I just haven't seen the desire from Triple G or his fanbase to want to see him fight Canelo. If he's such a Great Champion, then prove it by wanting to be the best by taking on the best competition out there. If not, then don't throw around catch phrases used by someone like Floyd Mayweather to describe himself as being the best, the supposed Rome of boxing if you will. Triple G has a ways to go before he can claim to have reached that level. Triple G is not going to be able to reach that level if he avoids fighting Canelo. He needs that fight to show the world how good he is.

 

To be completely honest, I don't usually watch mayweather interviews or listen to him talk. He is a brilliant boxer but as an orator, he is subpar. I will take your word for him using this phase enough to be associated with him but you'll have understand that not all of us associate the saying with him.

And yes, GGG needs Canelo but no more than Canelo needs GGG. Following your own logic, GGG is in this for money and not for glory - which means he can afford to wait. He makes 3-5 mil a fight against just about anyone, while racking up defences and maintaining an image of a fearsome, avoided fighter. Canelo's profits dwindle as mexican fan base did not take kindy to him dropping the wbc belt. Chavez is a one time exception but then what? Canelo literally has no one else to fight. GGG has a plethora of choices, BJS , CEjr, the bigger Charlo, Wade (bleeeh), Andadre or any other big boys coming up from 154 etc. Canelo has Cotto (who is retiring in december) and a possible rematch with Chavez. That's it. No one else will match the risk to benefit criteria.
