I think Virgil hunter is overrated as hell!!! He is one of the absolute worst trainers I have seen and he gets such high regard!!! Kinda like alcazar with Oscar de la Hoya. Just because Virgil was blessed with a once in a generation talent like ward does not make him an elite trainer!!! The man loses all the fights he corners with exception of when ward fought!!!
He gives me the willy's..I cant even get close to remotely talking about his worth as a trainer, the man flat out scares me !
It was very strange last night... And leading up to the fight. I can't place a finger in it, but he didn't seem overly Team Khan for some reason.
It isn’t a shocker. Hunter has been critical of Khan not being fully committed to boxing for years and said the hardest thing about dealing with Khan is that boxing just isn’t a top priority for Khan and is why Khan consistently has underachieved despite his talent. Virgil can only do so much with Khan, who has basically been a part-time fighter for the last 4-5 years. Khan isn’t that dedicated to his own boxing career, so I can see why Hunter just goes through the motions at this point with Khan. “Khan is now targeting a rematch with Garcia, who kept his own side of the bargain by scoring a thrilling unanimous decision win of his own over veteran and former Khan foe Zab Judah in Brooklyn later on Saturday night. But Khan's trainer Virgil Hunter has told the 26-year-old he must spend more time at his training base in San Francisco if he is serious about once again holding his own with his sport's elite fighters. Hunter said: 'I'm convinced now that in his own mind Amir knows he's got to work more and come to the gym more, and that he can't just go off between fights. Amir has to acknowledge that right now he is at a disadvantage because of the distance between us. 'I see Amir for three months when he comes over here, so the opposition can creep ahead of you because all the top fighters are with their trainers all the time. 'It is something we are going to work on to see if we can bring him up to the level we need him to be at.' However Khan, who fought at a career-heaviest 143lbs as he mulls a potential future move up to the welterweight division, appeared less inclined to fully commit to a full-time training regime away from home. Khan said: 'I will probably fly to San Francisco in between fights and do mini-camps. It's going to be difficult. My whole family's in England but I don't mind travelling back and forth.'” https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing/article-2316080/Amir-Khan-told-to-US-Virgil-Hunter.html
