My point was that Floyd greatness is due to his incredible fitness and most importantly his ring IQ. A pitter patter pad workout has got nothing to do with that. He has okay power but certainly not great for a fighter that is the best of his generation.
You must be ignorant if you think it does nothing for him, he comes from a family of 3 pro boxers 2 world champions believe me they know what are they doing. Ali is top 5 HW ever, and i believe he probably has the least power out of all guys that are ranked in top 10 all time doesnt make him any less of a fighter, a lot of power punchers are simply born proper technique does help with transferring power through whole body but i listened many great fighters and trainers say punchers are born not made.
U have absolutely no idea what your talking about kid, Technique is power and pads increase and improve it, you've clearly never boxed competitively before or at a high level either!
atsch Again find me trainer that works on fighters power on pads, I'll wait. Just how stupid you made yourself look, Ward doesnt have great power but he does have great technique, same goes for Floyd. Off course technique is important for power punching, but there is plenty of technically great fighter with not great power thats why many of great fighters and trainers often said punchers are born. And some fighters just dont sit on their punches so even with good technique they dont deliver tremendous power. If your technique aint proper you will throw arm punches, not transferring weight from back foot through hips to the fist but some fighter do all that and still dont have tremendous power. And if you are trying to say you can make fighter deliver his power better through pads work out i agree but to increase his power no delivering it is another story.
I dont hate wardatsch i was saying watching a padworkout that has an average of i dunnno....say 40 punches a round?/ well thats hard work having to watch it while a trainer walks around most of the time. Thats all i was getting at homie, chillax dude.......seriously you are too tense buddy:good
Bro how you train is how you will fight. How you hit the mitts will carry on in actual fights. If you throw patty cakes on the pads then you will not all of a sudden throw bombs during the fight because your muscles will not be used to it. I agree with the OP that roger mayweather style of doing mitts or Virgil's is better suited for defensive boxers because their style of mitt work is all about improving your reflexes and defense. Take a look at pacquiao, Golovkin, kovalev, matthyse etc. on the mitts. They hit thru the pads and it's no coincidence that those guys hit the same way in fights.
Someone called me ignorant. The single fact that someone is an incredible athlete does not mean everything they do is right. A good example is Marquez drinking ****. Doesn't that make him a great boxer. Merely having the best fighter doesn't make you the best trainer. Under that basis the greatest trainer who ever lived was Ray Robinson's original trainer.
Pad work is pointless and glorified these days. Like Steward said most of the greatest fighters in history never did pad work. Ever. LOL @ people on here acting like pad work is the end all and be all of training. It is actually the opposite :rofl:rofl
Joel Diaz does the same thing, but with intensity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5Ahebl9zE0 go to 1:05
Nonsense! Mitts help you to develop power and technique. Vargas, Mosley, Trinidad for instance are punchers, they all deliver punches with power on the mitts . Go Watch on youtube
