I know nothing about boxing training but speculatively the way Floyd does it, it seems the purpose of it is to train reflexes, conditioning and defense rather than punching technique and power, so I can see why you'd say this.

Watch Kovalev on the pads, and he has tremendous power in fight.
http://youtu.be/k2OXw-Hg-tA?t=2m54s and after this watch Ward on pads you would think Ward has more power but he doesnt, pads are more for accuracy and technique than power, if you guys think pads are power work out thats on you.

I don't know, maybe they throw more power on the pads when there isn't a camera crew in the gym. Maybe they want to look more flashy when the world is watching.

:patsch THese guys have clearly never boxed competitively, he says pads is for technique and not power, every trainer in the world will disagree with you there! and the more technique u have the more power you have, i.e twisting and throwing ur shoulder in the shot, like rigo is a good example his punches are soo hard becasue their thrown perfectly

This.. The moment I go hard on the pads my coach will ask me to cool down and ask me to focus on accuracy.

u need a new coach then :patsch u wont hear than in any good gym here in ireland or anywhere that has good boxing! the cuban boxers are the most technical and accurate boxers in the world and they hit the pads harder than anyone, watch some footage of the Olympic team in n ireland before the Olympics

No. Classic Pad Work is for both for power and technique.

Freddie Roach does classic pad work for example . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtPrauFE9SM

Emannuel Steward did too with Hearns.

Emmanual Steward said pad work other than for warming up and timing was useless. He said that was one of the problems with 'Trainers' today is anyone that holds pads thinks they are a 'Trainer' now and know boxing. I think I will take his word over yours. Thanks.

Yep, power commes from the shoulder, balance , legs , foot, angles.
It is clearly something you have to practice on the pads.
