I'd be inclined to agree for the most part. I thought this guy was going to kill himself benching 5kg dumbbells. He almost dropped them on his face.
But doing paused reps with your bodyweight on the bar is a decent show of strength in your first year of serious training.

Dead lifts a novice should be there or nearly there... No way can a complete noob bench their bodyweight. If anyone can legitimately prove me wrong go ahead, but I'm 90% sure your average non lifter will be no where near. I seriously doubt even a lot of pro athletes will be able to do it, unless they implement it in their training like I'm sure NFL players do. Watching superstars the other night was very interesting. Athletes in their prime struggling to do bodyweight dips...

They may not be able to actually complete the lift. I said they may have the absolute strength to potentially complete the lift.

Stability is a major factor when it comes to showcasing your strength. To be stable in a lift takes time, but once stability is there most trainees will increase in strength rapidly. Even if you have the absolute strength (which I think most people do which was my point) without this stability you can't use it to your max potential.

Wot iz absolute strength and do I have to turn super saiyan to unlock it?

But seriously I get it. But having the absolute strength to do it, and actually being able to do it are completely different, surely. I still see people getting stuck under the bar unable to even push it up a tiny bit well underneath their bodyweight though and there's no stability needed at that point really.

If the person has ever done any push ups or anything then they should be able to at least bench their bodyweight first time. When I was a young teenager weighing around 65kg who had only done push ups I was able to do 80kg for reps first time benching. Honestly if anyone can't bench their bodyweight then they have a serious lack of upper body strength. What sort of athletes were you watching?

I would say 80kg for someone who weights 65kg is a good weight for anyone let alone first time bench press. Most people i know who have just started the gym struggle to do there own bodyweight

80kg at 65kg bodyweight is decent, especially for reps. For a first timer it'd be pretty rare, and for someone in their early teens it's exceptional.

Really? I don't think it's exceptional for someone who regularly did push ups, at that age I used to do sets of 50. Bodyweight exercises, especially upper body are very effective for improving general strength/strength endurance. 80kg bench at 65kg certainly isn't very strong, it'd be what you'd expect for somebody who hasn't done weights imo.
Weights are essential for lower body strength but I think it's a bit pointless when I see skinny guys going to the gym and doing upper body exercises with light weights, they'd get far better results from doing some bodyweight exercises imo.

Remember, Dealt is the guy who said he was model material, had a perfect 8 pack, was very big and trained Olympians while doing his doctorate, then he was caught asking how to train with a twisted ankle 3 months prior to that claim ( something an Olympic trainer should have the answers to) then his partner was revealed, and to prove he wasn't the fat guy with nipple rings who he dates, he posted a pic of a gangly, malnourished grey skinned fragile guy who had a hint of a rib, but no abs:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

He has no credibility at all on ESB and anyone questioning his claims must be out of the loop on how badly he was dismembered in my old thread prior to it being deleted.

El Puma subsequently exposed him further and I just pop up every now and again to torment him, oh yes, he also switched his regular account to this alt account which has become his regular account in order to regain some relevance which was brutally beaten from him.:lol::smooch

No more posts needed by me in this thread so cheerio

People consider you a good troll and yet I troll you and make you visibly emotional. You haven't posted in the training forum for a long time but I make a couple of posts in your bogan thread and you come following me around writing out novels still pretending I'm someone else because you have nothing on me. I'm your daddy Anglo

How large of total do you think Tommy Hearns Tito Trinidad or Bernard Hopkins could lift at there peak? Three guys that are not built for weight lifting but what would there totals be?
You may ask what this has to do with anything? It doesn't mean ****, just like this rubbish that has gone on here for six pages. **** me !

I don't see what point you're trying to make, nobody has made the claim that you need to have a large total to hit hard.

Well if you did that fair ****ing play. I still maintain that an average person cannot bench their bodyweight. Of course you have exceptions though.

The athletes were a mixture, all kinds of athletes; boxer, long distance runner, taekwondo, swimming, triathletes, high jumpers etc. They did all sorts of physical challenges, one being bodyweight dips. The majority struggled to get over 10.

Anthony Joshua, the boxer, absolutely pissed every test.
