In order to get a look at Gomez at his best you need to watch him in his early days at 122. From about 19 years of age until about 22 (or the time of the Zarate fight) he was one of the most beautiful boxer-punchers I've ever watched. Most tend to think of the latter, more power-happy version of Gomez when giving their insights on him. I'd say his fall from a technical stand-point was similar to that of a young Tyson in the late 80's compared to the post-prison version. In terms of ability, anyway, not style. They're hardly comparable there. Gomez was a beautifully smooth boxer with unbelievable legs, great upper-body movement and a complete offensive arsenal in his younger days.

Cheers man. That is the most in depth breakdown I've heard of Gomez and makes me want to buy a career set of his even more. I'll certainly get it and study his career myself (especially at 122) after I've had a look at Bob Foster and Alexis Arguello. :thumbsup

The only career sets I've seen are Floyd's and Haye's. I feel ashamed :-(
