Ruiz is tough and also a pain in the ass. His jab and grab style is extremely frustrating to watch, and wearisome to his opponents. If the ref doesn't let him do the "slug and hug" thing Vitaly wins an easy UD. Watch Ruiz-Golota and count how many times he grabbed Andrew.

It's too bad that Klitschko never fought Ruiz when Ruiz was in his prime.
Vitali still would have won, but it's just too bad.

Klitschko ko late in a surprisingly difficult fight for him.
I accidentally voted for Ruiz though.

Vitali Late TKO around 11 or so.

Ruiz is much more superior to the new tricks he learned scince the David Tua fight in the 90s.

john ruiz is a horribly boxer who is INCREDIBLE at what he does. he controls the pace and dictates the punch output sooooo well almost everyone is forced to fight his fight. most opponents end up punching less and being caught in the same trap as always. and given this slow ass, one punch at a time, then clinch style best suits ruiz, he usually wins. most fighters aren't used to that and suffer for it. Plus, despite appearances he is obviously very strong on the inside and he's held some powerful dudes. vitali would win in an ugly, ugly fight based on his control of the outside and distance on the rare occasion ruiz let's him go

The key here is whether the refs enforce the rules on Ruiz's illegal holding tactics. If they do, he loses big, and probably gets stopped late. If they don't, he does something along the lines you say, and makes it to the final bell.

But the bottom line is that without the cheating, Ruiz is nothing, and never would have been.

exactly:good after tua he realized REAL quick he wasn't good enough to compete at the top. so he and normy added some tricks. for a boxer that is so universally hated, he's been given a lot of wiggle room by refs over the years

Usally I would argue klitschko by knock out, but the klitshkos are content to tie up so I think as the fight gets towards the mid rounds the more it becomes ruizs fight.

That's what connections with Don King will do for you. If it wasn't for King, nobody would have heard of Ruiz after Tua.:yep
