If I remember correctly, Vitali's surgery took approx. 2.5 hours. He posted pictures of himself at the old site from Kiev in big cast. I think that site was owned by Danilo, years ago. His arm was numb, sign of possible nerve damage. I am glad he did the smart thing and quit, if he had not, there was a chance he would never fight again. Marciano had a badly split nose, ref gave him one more round to fight, he went out and knocked his opponent out. Ref should have given Vitali one more round, that's all Vitali needed to knock Lewis out. I remember that Max was sitting right behind Lewis' corner. Angelo Dundee said that Vitali was cheated out of the WBC title that night. Dundee was one of the best cutmen in boxing history and trainer of Ali and Leonard. Doctor did not even look at Vitali's cut. Lewis was done for and could not have gone on any longer that night. Man, his nose was badly broken.
That would be the Lewis fight? I guess VK wasn't aware of what his corner was applying.................. That still doesn't change the fact that he only quit in one fight brainiac..............and that was a good decision in retrospect since he went on to achieve quite a bit wouldn't you say?
Prince you ignorant slut...................... To fight for the WBC Heavyweight title without & tuneup after a near 4 year retirement speaks volumes as to how dominating VK is. He didn't fight some feather fisted Fres Oquendo either, it was Samuel "Highlight Reel KO of Jeremy Williams" Peter who had never been stopped prior to fighting Vitali.
Vitali will never get ATG respect whilst he will have spent his whole career not fighting the world no 1 {aside from having his face punched off ,off Lewis] Unfortunate set of events with it being his brother, but he will always be known as 'The Man who was never the man'
BTW How do you know it was torn before the fight. Everything I have read about it, tells that it was diagnosed after the fight and that injure occured during the fight.
There were shoulder rumors before the fight. If you watched the bout, compare it to Vitali's previous bouts and the effectiveness of his lefthook. He was a strict lefthook guy about like Morrison and rarelty jabbed and didn't throw many right hands. > Byrd, he changed his style and punches and just how many other heavyweights are able to do that anyway? The other thing with Vitali is the fact the guy was champ in 1999. 11 years later, still champ and defending it against youthful challengers. Name the other heavies successful at doing that? Thats a helluva long run at the top of the sport.
