Why are so many enamoured with the antics of Briggs and his ilk?

The pharse "funny as ****" is constantly bandied about along with the claims that boxing needs these antics to sell fights. I just do not get most people. In addition it will be horrible for the sport if that abomination Briggs somehow wins. Rest assured, all the cockroaches crawling out from under their baseboards, claiming how Briggs winning was the best thing for the heavyweight division in ages.

HBO will then sign Briggs and be back in heavyweight boxing.
