Since 06 wlad has been the best hw in the world, that's fair to say based on his opposition.

Since 08 there's been some quiet objections but even most vitali fans admit wlad has earned his place at the top.

However, last night, I felt like the gap closed considerably. A quick resume comparison since the comeback shows the following:

Vitali: peter, gomez, arreola, sosnowski, solis, briggs and adamek

Wlad: iggy, thompson, chag, rahman, chambers, peter, haye.

Do the two compare? I think they very nearly do.

    Peter-iggy
    Adamek-haye
    Arreola-chambers
    Gomez-thompson
    Briggs-rahman (shot former champs)
Solis-peter (just outside the top ten)

Now sosnowski don't quite balance out with chag. But if vitali fights haye next and is as dominant or moreso, you could argue vitali's comeback resume above wlad's in the same timescale.

If vitali does destroy haye whilst wlad makes a mando against mormeck or some other unranked opponent then i'd say the two are equal.

From there vitali could pull ahead if he secures the pov fight.

So what do you think? Could vitali overtake wlad in the near future? Would the resume's post comeback be equal if vitali beat haye?

I'm gonna put it out there and say the wlad era is on borrowed time and he's soon going to be usurped. I could be wrong but I look forward to watching it all unfold!

They both fought all of the top guys at their time. Their resumes are exactly the same and shouldn't really be compared. Each fighter they went through were top 10 material.

I dont think vitali overtakes wlad resume wise, even if he manages to make it close now then the gap will get wider when he retires and wlad continues dominating for a few more years.
Only possible situation where he surpasses wladimir is if wlad loses a fight in the near future and vitali takes over and unifies all the belts and dominates a few more fights before hanging them up.

There's no comparison when it comes to the chin dept.

Vitali has a golden chance to fight and beat Haye in dramatic fashion, after Wlad just went the distance with him, and was even stunned late in the fight by Haye.

I think that a dramatic win over Haye will say alot about how Vitali compares to Wlad on fighting the same fighter.

But, Vitali obvioulsy has to fight and beat Haye in dramatic fashion in order to make distinction. But he has a great opportunity with the possible/probable Haye fight.

Sort of a *THIS is how you properly beat David Haye!*statement.

I don't mean in greatness, without wlad losing vitali will find it very hard to overtake wlad in greatness.

In terms of which brother is the best today and the man to beat, I think it's possible.

If wlad is fighting mormeck and fury whilst vitali fights haye and povetkin you'd have to put vitali above wlad in current rankings right?

Its hard to pick one over the other. I do like watching Vitalis fight much more though. I think Vitali with knock Haye out, and I'm hoping this fight comes off in January/February.

Agreed he'd have to outshine wlad's performance.

I dont know to be honest, if wlad keeps winning those fights and vitali as well then I probably still have wladimir ahead in the rankings but I wouldnt argue with anybody who has it differently then.

It's becoming more and more arguable. A strong argument can be made that, right now, Vitali is the best HW out there. And while only speculative, I think most would agree he would beat Wlad head to head.

I wont be surprised if Vitali tries to fight a name inside the next 3 months. He was looking for a fight with Liakhovich in between the Solis and Adamek fights before it fell through which would have been a good scalp considering the time scale. He probably wants as many fight now before he becomes shot.

Leading up to this fight his last two were against sos and briggs and considering his age I thought the argument was well and truly over.

But dominating a top 5 opponent like that, wlad is talking about mormeck and fury whilst vitali is talking about haye.

If he dominates haye and wlad doesn't take on a credible opponent I think i'd be willing to call vitali the best in the world today.

I do believe he'll retire soon though, he won't be trying to break foreman's record anyways.

If you factor in losses, Vitaly was always above. Vitaly has fewer and less embarrassing.

If you go on wins alone, Wladdy is still the man.
