gomez is not in the same class as Vitali...it will be an awful game of cat and mouse.

At best, this fight will look like the Larry Donald bout.

I'm pretty interested in seeing this. JCGomez will not stand there like a heavybag. He will move around the ring very well.

Also keep in mind that JCGomez has a reach equal to Vitali. For a guy that mobile that is a very good reach to have. Vitali is going to have to work for a clean punch. Only question is will he land it? We all know that Yanqui Diaz knocked JCGomez out. Vitali, if he lands clean, will likely do the same.

To be fair to Vitali, citing lack of interest or not, I didn't think he was trying to arrange a voluntary anyway...the terms of his Emeritis title shot meant he would definitely have to face a mandatory next.

Gomez is one of the better HWs out there at this point and deserves his shot at the title. He's a top HW in this weak division and he fought two eliminators.

Gomez is better than some make him out to be: he got a good chin (his single TKO loss was a fluke), he's one of very few HWs who got decent skills and he's not that small. His power is probably underrated (in fact McCall, the man with the best chin ever alongside Chuvalo, who went countless rds in sparring with Tyson and took massive bombs against Lewis without blinking, said that Gomez was the only man to ever stun him!). Of course he has to prepare himself seriously this time - discipline was always his weakness. He also has faced Klitschko in the amateurs.

That said, I pick Klitschko by late stoppage.

Gomez has talent, but is unknown to the masses. If you have not seen Gomez before, he is skilled, and fast, but does not have a lot of toughness, and can be boring.

Vitlai will not get much credit for the win here. I would rather see Vitlai vs Valuev, with K-2 promotions giving Gomez step aside money.

I have seen Gomez a few times before...his biggest problem is his lackadaisical attitude.

No I don't think Vitali will get much credit, but you've got to get your mandatories out of the way. Not such a bad price to pay for the chance to get the belt back in the first place. The WBC made it clear before Vitali-Peter that the mandatory would have to be next, and considering the log-jam they created there it's no wonder.

Unfortunetely, you are absolutely right in saying that Vitaly wont get much credit for a victory over the relatively unknown Cuban.
Gomez is one of the most naturelly talented fighters out there. A classy heavy weight who doesnt have much pop in his fists and who tends to prefer partyhing to sweating inside a gym. I am positive that he will put on a much better show of boxing than that stiff and one-dimensional American based African Sam Peter.
Besides Gomez deserves a shot at Vitaly's title. He beat Vladimir Virchis in an eliminator fight- in very convincing fashion.
I for my part would have prefered Virchis vs Vitaly as Virchis still has the necessary firepower to take out Vitaly with a single shot.
A pity that Virchis had to face Gomez in an eliminator fight.Styles make fights. Gomez'style was totally wrong for Virchis. If Sam Peter had been in Virchis' opposite corner that night he would have murdered that stationary target within 3 rounds.
Anyway! According to Vitaly he knocked Gomez down during sparring a couple of years ago when both of them fought under the banner of the same German box promotion. Guess that Vitaly will be able to do the same in the upcomming encounter.

I am laughing at the people trying to talk up Gomez. He is an OK boxer but he is far removed from the fighter that looked good in 2003. The guy has a gut like James Toney and he will get knocked out.

It wasnt a fluke. He went in there with his usual glib attitude and thought he was going to get a gimme. Diaz cracked him and Gomez went night night. Gomez is too much of a playboy he doesnt take boxing seriously and has nothing to offer a stud like Vitali except a bit more movement than Peter. As soon As Vitali checks that chin its lights out Gomez. Vitali inside 5.

Bingo:thumbsup The only reason he moved up was because he didnt have the professionalism to make 190 anymore. The guy is sooo lazy.
