what you guys dont get is who was behind the stoppage, see they let the fight go when they already knew how bad it was , but when they seen that Lewis wasnt going to be able to take Vitali down and knew vitali was going to Knock Lewis out, they stoped it! it was a mercy stoppage from the ringside powers that be for Lewis.

so you dont think that based on the cuts he suffered, the fight should have been stopped?

I think his corner were stopping it anyway. Why were they putting those plasters all over his eye? You don't do that if you're planning on coming out for the next round.

And it was only after someone whispered in Vitali's ear, presumably telling him to, that he kicked up a fuss.

Vitali's face may have been paralyzed had he gone on.

:deal Reminds me abit of the Thrilla in Manila where the losing guy wanted to continue and had a huge fighting heart, but for his own sake, the doctor had to step in, while the winner, also with alot of heart, was gassing out and looked ready to go himself. **** happens, oh well. Lewis was past his prime like Ali was, Vitali beating him in a rematch might of elevated him as his successor, but then he would still be criticized for beating an old man and not a prime version of Lewis.

what do you expect him to say? Lewis beat him fair and square. And for what its worth - I think Lewis was starting to take control and he could have stopped Vitali late or had a comfortable points win.

Strange that Vitali thinks the stoppage was premature. Just goes to show how steroid use effects the mind and makes one see things in a non-realistic distorted light.
Good thing the Ref was in his right mind or Vitali would be using a cane and seeing eye dog today.

Ahead on points and willing and able to fight the bout should have continued.

The point is, Vitali wanted to continue and he wants people to remember that. He was up 4 rounds to 2 but Lewis had the momentum. He may be right in a sense... had the fight continued maybe (just maybe) his corner could have kept the cuts in check.

I think the stoppage was fine but had the ref let it go another round... that would have been fine as well.
