It is common WBC practice IF the title was vacant before, have a look at their current cruiserweight situation for example. But since that's not the case here I can fully understand Vitali's position, he's right to sue them.
Gomez is a decent mandatory. Better than the Austin's, Skelton's, Barret's, and Rhaman's of the world who got title shots. Vitlai is right. Fans want to see him face the top guys. Chagaev, Valuev, or Haye.
Here is the WBC current top ten, according to their site: Juan Carlos Gomez (Cuba) Chris Arreola (US) AMERICA/NABF Alexander Dimitrenko (Ukraine) David Haye (GB) Samuel Peter (Nigeria) Oleg Maskaev (Kazakhstan) Ray Austin (US) USNBC James Toney (US) Odlanier Solis (Cuba) INTL Kevin Johnson (US) Seeing as how Haye and Arreola are both in the Wlad soap opera, obviously the next deserving and logical choice that would also be a somewhat interesting fight would be Dimitrenko. I guess Oleg's promoter, Denis Rappaport, must have alot of pull with Suliaman and the WBC. Whomever Wlad don't fight (Haye or Arreola), or Dimitrenko, is the one Vitali should get.
If Haye can't get a Klitschko fight he may as well fight Maskaev so he'd be guaranteed a shot. Maskaev is a slight improvement over Barret.
No, Wlad is NOT the true champion, no matter how many excuses you try and make for him. He is narrowly number 1 ahead of Vitali, but he has not yet become champ. There have always been bull**** mandatories, always. People have still managed to unify. Wlad becomes the champ when he manages this, there is no double standard for him. He still has time.
In my mind Wlad will become the legit Heavyweight Champion when he fights and beats his brother. Vitali was the #1 Heavyweight in the World when he retired he was also WBC and Ring Magazine champion. He then came back after 4 years off and spanked a guy Wlad had a lot of trouble with.
I am a huge fan of Vitali. However, having one fight in the last 5 years and beating a guy that Wlad has already beat doesn't give him claim to be the true Champion of the Division. The WBA mess isn't even worth mentioning. As I said before, Wladimir Klitschko is the True Champion of the division. Ring Mag dropped the ball horribly by forgetting to update their rankings properly and put Wlad in the top 3 after he beat Peter. Wlad then went on to knock out the #1 ranked Heavyweight by Ring Mag Chris Byrd. A few months later Ring Mag had Wlad ranked #1 and Peter (who Wlad just beat) sitting at #2. So Wlad has just beat the #1, and soon to be ranked #2 heavyweights by Ring Mag and still wasn't declared Ring Mag Champion because they were too slow in putting Wlad in the top 3. Since then Wlad has been on a steady diet tearing through top 10 heavyweights and still doesn't get his recognition. No other Champion even has a legitimate claim to be the true Champion. There is no dispute... Wlad IS the Champ.
:rofl Holmes NEVER unified! Not even 2 belts at once. He was the WBC champ for a period of time, and then was the IBF Champ for a period of time... that's it. I guess according to the standard of "having to unify all of the corrupt belts" Holmes was nothing more than a belt holder. However... I have a feeling that there will be an excuse as to why that isn't true in his case.
He had ALREADY beat Weaver who had the WBA belt. Do some research. The IBF was not introduced until 1983 or 1984. Holmes was THE Heavyweight Champion of the World. He did not have to unify. You are clueless on this matter.
He Never Unified The Titles I'm clueless on this matter? You haven't told me anything that I don't know. I also consider Holmes the Heavyweight Champion of the World. Instead of arguing with me, I think that you need to be arguing with the person that I was responding to.:nut BTW, you are showing your double standard yourself by giving Holmes a pass at not unifying the WBA because he had beat Weaver who became the WBA champ afterwards (who wasn't the only WBA Champ)... yet, don't consider the fact that Wlad had already beat Peter who became the WBC Champ afterwards. So... if Holmes win over Weaver canceled out the WBA... then Wlad's win over Peter canceled out the WBC.
The WBC needs to be under some kind of legal oversight. It's unacceptable that they openly make Maskaev a mandatory just to avoid a costly lawsuit. They are appeasing a single person at the expense of the entire division. What a corrupt group! Nobody gives a **** because the division isn't all that hot.
