Holmes also had already beat Ali who was THE Heavyweight Champion. So, he had beat Ali who was lineal and had already beat Weaver who had the WBA. There was no need for unification under those circumstances with only two belts at the time.

We are in a different era with these 3 or 4 belts if you count the WBO.

You are trying to compare Apples to Oranges. Also, you are giving these stupid alphabet organizations just what they want which is credibility which we both know they have none of.

If anyone has a claim as THE Heavyweight champion it is Dr. Vitali Klitschko who was #1 when he left and came back to take his old belt in impressive fashion.

 

The linear title means absolutely nothing. Especially when you beat someone who is doing his best impression of a corpse to get that label. Shannon Briggs became linear Champ too.... was he the true Champ? Hell no.

Wow, you are really off base. First of all... I am arguing AGAINST giving the corrupt orgs credibility. If you are going to count corrupt titles then you have to count the WBO because they are recognized just like the other 4.

I am not comparing apples and oranges. I am proving that you don't HAVE to unify all of the titles to be the true Champ of the division. Beating Ali didn't mean a damn thing, and doesn't make Holmes the true Champ any more than Briggs beating Foreman the true Champ. Actually... it meant even less at that point.

I also pointed out your double standard by showing that you believe Holmes beat Weaver who went on to win the WBA title which cancels out that title. Well.. Wlad beat Peter who went on to win the WBC title which cancels out that title, right? The WBC is just about the LEAST credible belt at this point. See the topic of this thread? So... according to your own standards Wlad canceled out the WBC title by already beating Peter, so Vitali really didn't come back and win anything that was worth something.

Vitali was the Ring Mag Champ when he retired, and the WBC champ... I agree. That was also 5 years ago, and means absolutely nothing right now considering that he has had 1 fight in 5 years and it was against someone that the true Champ had already beat. Vitali is a head to head beast, but he has never accomplished that much by way of actual victories over top competition. Nothing even close to what Wlad is currently doing.

Wlad is the only unified Champ. He had already beat Peter who went on to win the WBC title afterwards even though Peter had clearly gone downhill since his fight with Wlad. The WBA title means absolutely nothing at this point... Wlad knocked out the #1 ranked heavyweight by Ring Mag in Chris Byrd directly after beating the man who was planted at #2 months after he beat him which is Sam Peter. He has also beat a fellow undefeated WBO World Champ in Ibragimov... as well as a slew of top 10 contenders. Wlad is the true Champ.

First off you say that the alphabet belts don't matter then you go on to tell us Wlad is a unified champion. atsch:huh And I am the one with the double standards? And your bit about 'canceling' out belts? Who are you Don King where he said the first knockdown in the Tyson/Douglas fight should have canceled out Douglas KO? Many people do not even count the WBO.

The only thing that matters is the Ring Magazine Championship which the last person to hold it just came back and dominated a guy that Wlad went life and death with.

So, until Wlad steps up and beats his brother he can't be considered anything.

Now if his brother loses or retires then he might have a little claim. Right now he has zilch, nada, nothing, zero.

There is no Heavyweight Champion but the the person with the greatest claim is Vitali Klitschko.

Ring Magazine is just as bad as the alphabets if not worse. Most fans couldnt care less about "RING"

 

Most fans actually think its most prestige’s title.

 

CHEF I disagree. They do drop the ball on occasion but more often than not they are fair and do what is right. You know all of the politricks that are involved with the sanctioning bodies it is a joke. The alphabet organizations have hepled ruin Boxing. They often block fights the fans want to see becaise of their meaningless 'mandatory' fights which are often some obscure fighter that does not deserve a title shot to begin with.

I do agree that the WBA Heavyweight belt is worthless and I do not even factor it into the equation.

 

Vitali had an injured right hand and was takenout by his own corner to protect his hand. Somewhat like his loss to Byrd, a legit loss, but one that had zero to do with the opponent.

 

I agree about the alphabets, but I would say the ring is also. Its political just like the others. How does Wlad not get the belt when Peter was #2?. We know the belt will not be handed out soon because the brothers wont fight, but if Wlad is #1 and Vitali retires, you watch... somehow, someway, Wlad wont get that belt regardless of who he beats

 

Peter wasnt #2 when Wladimir beat him and Wladimir wasnt #1 that time either.

 

My only point about the Ring Magazine is they do not block fights the fans want to see like the alphabet orgs do all the time. It is frustrating. Additionally I like the IBO as their ratings seem pretty logical and they do not make ridiculous demands for their champion(s).

As for when Vitali retires it will be interesting to see who The Ring puts at #2. Hopefully whoever it is Wlad can fight them without interference from promoters, managers, etc.
