Lennox's legacy is already solidified no matter what. He's recognized as the top heavyweight in an era when heavyweight boxing was at the forefront of the sport. Today, heavyweight boxing has taken a backseat to the lower weight classes. This wasn't the case in the 90's, when most boxing historians will tell you was the golden era for heavyweights...

Vitali beating up hopeless and inferior opponents has no effect on Lennox's legacy at all. I don't want to sound a Klitschko hater but the competition at heavyweight today is.... disappointing. If there were real threats at this weight class and Vitali was dominating each of them, then maybe you'd have a point.. well.. actually.. you still don't... Styles make fights. Just cause Lennox beat Vitali and Vitali beats Fighter X doesn't mean Lennox beats Fighter X..

    Not really.

Vitali's dominance solidifies Lennox's choice to retire rather than give the rematch that so many non-biased fans demanded.

Uh...no. No, most historians will not call the nineties the golden era for heavyweights...in any way. No. No, no.

As they say "styles make fight". If fighter A defeats fighter B. It doesn't mean sure that fighter defeated by fighter B will also be defeated by fighter A.

    A classic example:

    Cotto beat Mosley
    Margarito beat Cotto
    Mosley beat Margarito

I am a huge Lennox Lewis fan who became a fan of Vitali partially because of the fight, and I have to disagree. I agree fully that Lewis is a great no matter what, but Vitali is the only great or near great fighter that he beat in his prime. I think Vitali is right up there with Tyson, Holyfield, and a couple of the better contenders like Tua in adding to his immense legacy.

BTW, so there is no misunderstanding, I rank Vitali in the bottom end of the top twenty heavies, and Lewis near the top end of the top 5. I am not trying to prop Vitali by proping Lewis. I have been a Lewis fan since the Olympics when they really hyped Bowe, and Lewis went out there and stuck him.

Much like Wlad and Vitali are today, Lewis was heavily criticized at the time of his undisputed reign for lack of strong opposition and boring performances. With Holyfield and Tyson on the decline, and Lewis struggling to find marketable opponets the division's popularity began to gradually sink. Roy Jones, Oscar, Sugar Shane, Trindad and lower weight fighters were the ones at the forefront during the late 90s and early 2000s, at least here in America. Not sure where you are coming from at all.

Dude, the cut happened early and the fight could have been stopped several rounds before it was.

Vitali knew how bad the cut was. If not for the fact that his cutman was stuffing tampax into it between rounds, then how about because he could see his own freaking eyelid hanging down in font of him!?!?

If Vitali needed someone to tell him he "better go for it because he was about to get stopped", then he was another level of dumb. But he has a PhD, so we know he isn't dumb.

Anyway, it's not the ref's job to tell him how hard to fight.

Face it, prime Vitali DID go all-out, but fell short. It was close and there is no shame in losing to an ATG, but please don't fall into the usual "coulda should woulda" arguments that we hear whenever Vitali is mentioned.

The cutman said the fight could have gone one, so did Angelo Dundee. Vitali was cheated out of a 7th round knockout that night and Lewis knows it. Lewis' badly broken nose was really bad, nothing said about that though.

The cutman was PAID by Vitali, numbnuts. What do you expect him to say??

And Angelo Dundee also said Atilla Levin was going to be the next great HW. He's a senile old fool.

Lennox was actually robbed of a 4th Round stoppage by the referee in the fight against Vitali. That's when most fights would have been stopped with a cut like that. :deal

Lewis was the champ and he didn't get a rematch with mccall straight away, he rematched mccall for the vacant wbc title 4 fights later :patsch

Only time he got an immediate rematch was because when he lost rahman he had it in the contract and still had to go to court to get it.

Vitali was a voluntary defence for lewis and therefore there was no rematch clause :patsch

    No double standards at all

Plus lewis knew he was passed it as it took him 6 rounds to tear vitty's face apart rather then the 2 or 3 it would of took if he was prime :rofl

Glad i could help to explain things for you newb :good
