As I recall he suffered the injury and scored the KO in the same round, he didn't have to fight 8 or 9 rounds with it. Not that is wasn't gutsy but I doubt he'd have lasted 20 odd minutes with an injury like that. I don't blame people for retiring with serious enough injuries Israel Vasquez quit in the frist Marquez fight with a broken nose, fairly standard by boxing standards, but no one doubts how tough he is, he knows his limits, there's only a reasonable amount of pain you can expect people to take for your enjoyment.

so he quit because he was afraid he´d collapse because of the pain? he could have fought on the remaining 3 rounds of the fight like he fought 7 rounds with the injury before while he could work with his left hand but he just choose to quit on his stool over likely getting KTFO by Byrd
