Not the greatest resume but one forged on consistent domination of good fighters no greats but all good fighters his best in no real order Hide- got his first belt vs a quick guy who could hit Peter- on a roll and Vitali hadnt fought in 4 yrs Gomez- 40 something wins no loss dominant cruiser belt holder for yrs good wins at hwt Sanders- huge win over Wlad ppl said Vitali would suffer same fate Norris- Cruiser holder decent fighter early KO then lots of honorable mentions Arreolla undefeated top contender, Solis amatuer start good wins as a pro, Kirk Johnson former challenger, Bean former challenger, Donald then Adamek will add on and if he fights haye that adds on
Just watched a couple parts. I can say, I don't know how Byrd would win the 8th round. He was walking Vitali down sure, but he landed like 5 punches. Vitali was throwing and landing more meaningful shots, looked like more shots in general too. I can see how some of the other rounds went to Byrd though. Not debating that. But I feel he only took a couple rounds.
I think the consensup opinion is that vitali failed to realise his potential due to a 4 year injury spell that was compounded with wlad's rise to the top in dominant fashion. Vitali will always be the lesser brother, just one of them things.
Vaughn Bean, never was stopped. Only by Vitali! Same with Donald and Kirk Johnson. Also Vitali was the first Boxer to stop Peter! Best wins. Hide, Sanders, Peter, Gomez, Solis
Exactly, so vitali has clearly 1-4 and round 8. That's 5 rounds. Byrd has clearly rounds 5 and 9. That's 5-2 in clear rounds. Round 6 and 7 can easily go to byrd. The way the fight was heading and considering vitali quit it's a safe bet byrd would have swept the final 3 rounds. That's 5-5 in clear rounds with two swing rounds. Now you tell me vitali was easily beating byrd or you do the right thing and admit it was a competitive fight that would have been very close on the cards by the finish.
Ok I get it... Hey I'm a huge Vitali fan, I'd go as far as to say if I ever met him I'd suck his c0ck, the thing is yes his resume is sh*t, especially compared to his brother's. But there are reasons for that, and anyone with half a brain can tell his a great talent and could compete in any era. First off there are two brothers, therefore the amount of challengers is divided by two. Vitali has gotten more of the crap fighters while Wlad has gotten the more accomplished. But Wlad was originally supposed to be the better of the two. He was supposed to fight LL but was shockingly KO'ed by Sanders. Vitali then stepped in and claimed the spotlight with his entertaining fight with LL. Unfortunately Vitali, a former champion kickboxer, was plauged with injuries and retired prematurely. During those 4 years Wlad rebuilt himself and become the undisputed man of the division by fighting several top guys and belt holders. Now that Vitali is back there isn't much left for him, he's still more or less taking a back seat to Wlad while he dominated the division. It's what brothers do for each other. I respect it. I still think Vitali is better H2H, I'd pick him every time. But maybe I'm a fool. Wlad's resume is much better, but Vitali would still destroy anyone on Wlad's resume, and Wlad would most likely do the same with Vitali's resume. Sadly Vitali is one of those fighters who is very gifted but due to circumstances beyond his control he will never be able to reach his full potential. To a lesser extent, same goes for Wlad. Respect has to be given to Vitali. He is one mean mutherfooker!!!
Let me say that you said 5-9, that does not mean 5 & 9, that means t through 9. Kind of my fault for not reading that correctly, or you making a typo. Also, since round 8 went to Klitschko, clearly, I don't think it's safe to say that Byrd would win the remaining rounds. I'll admit, closer than I initially though, BUT, still not a "close" fight in my mind. Good argument though. :bbb
Was the shot Valuev really a top 5 heavy at the time though? He was just coming off defeats to Chagaev and Holyfield and looked like **** for a few years prior.
1 Corrie Sanders (underrated) 2 Herbie Hide ( only on 2 because Vitali steamrolled him in GB) 3 Juan Carlos Gomez 4 Kirk Johnson 5 Chris Arreola The Solis fight was too short and Solis wasn' koed The Peter fight was a mismatch
You are one of the very few people on ESB who admit the reality of how overrated Vitali is. The fact people put Gomez and Herbie Hide in his top 5 wins is ridiculous. The man makes his brother Wlad fight all the talented contenders while defending his own paper title against fat bums.
I love this. All I have to do to **** off Vitali fans is ask them to name his 5 best wins.:rofl:rofl:roflatsch
