I had never heard that before. It is kind of interesting that these knockdowns happened right around the time that Vitali took a few year hiatus from boxing.
Vitali showed one of the best chins in the last couple of decades and it was tested vs Lewis and Sanders and he was hit with their bombs so that leads me to believe he was having the back trouble that was the reason for his hiatus. He came back strong though and did pretty well, his whiskers never being in doubt. Back troubles on the other hand are a ***** especially for tall guys
No heavyweight's chin impressed me as much as Vitali's. For that matter, VK could absorb punishment to the body as well as anyone,..Ali included. There was a round vs Lewis, when in addition to that horrendous cut eye,..that he took several...in succession, body bombs from Lewis, and continued to move forward, shoving LL.
LOL Just another gym tale, but Vitali did, in fact, hurt his knee in sparring. With no video, photo's or major news, you have to want to believe Di@kie here. Did it happen? You can't say either way, but pretty much anyone who sparred 10,000+ rounds has had a flash knockdown. The better question is was Vitali from the punch unrelated the knee injury? That was not mentioned here.
Same here. I've asked before for someone to show me a filmed haymaker that was harder where the fighter showed less distress from the punch. Vitali had one of the best all time chins in the history of the sport, never being floored as a pro. In the end, that is what matters.
sparring doesn't count. though to be fair, not much on vits resume counts as proof of a great chin either, though he did weather lewis for less than half a fight, which Bruno managed more or less, so brunos chin is a good yardstick for vits.
Sanders landed a hard shot to the side of the head. That same shot floors or hurt most heavyweight to the point where it's a KO or upcoming TKO. Hide landed a hard right. No effect. Briggs, who Lennox Lewis called the hardest puncher he fought landed every now and then. No effect! Peter landed at times. No Effect. Chins are best graded when they are hit, and Vitali took every blow that hit him without being floored. Some think McCall had a great chin. He did, but he wasn't hit with the same amount of bombs. And Bruce Seldon had him rocked and hurt.
Take Lewis hook or uppercut. Take Sanders hard left to the side of the head in round one, or Hide's hard right in round one. Those were tough shots to take. Vitali fought many punchers. Not one of them floored him Lewis, Sanders, Hide, Briggs, Peter and K Johnson to name some.
yeah if you hadnt noticed, I was writing a supportive post for vits. lewis was the best puncher he faced, which is why I mentioned him. Mentioning crudsters like sanders and sam is not a positive argument, myargument was much better. please dont weaken my argument by your kliturd self destruction, thank you.
To be honest it doesn't really matter if it did or didn't happen. It's what he did in the ring in a real fight that matters.
Ali took some absolutely vicious, clean haymakers from Shavers in the second round of their fight. Also took massive hooks from Frazier. Mercer ate combination after combination, uppercut after uppercut from Lewis and he kept coming as if it was a slight breeze. Tex Cobb showed an insane chin in the Holmes and Shavers fights. But yes, Vitali is clearly among them in terms of chin :good
