Foreman landed some solid shots on Ali too. Ali's chin was rock. Mercer absorbed some hellacious punishment from Lewis, Morrison and Cooper. His chin was one of the best I've seen at heavyweight full stop. Vitali's chin belongs in this company too. Some of the shots Lewis bounced off him were simply massive and he barely stumbled. Sanders arguably floored him in round one though other than that his chin was top echelon.
Sanders landed a hard shot to the side of the head. That same shot floors or hurt most heavyweight to the point where it's a KO or upcoming TKO. Hide landed a hard right. No effect. Briggs, who Lennox Lewis called the hardest puncher he fought landed every now and then. No effect! Peter landed at times. No Effect. Chins are best graded when they are hit, and Vitali took every blow that hit him without being floored. Some think McCall had a great chin. He did, but he wasn't hit with the same amount of bombs. And Bruce Seldon had him rocked and hurt. Re-read the examples I gave. Better yet give me a filmed example of a fighter taking a bomb better than the examples I gave. List the round and time, and we can judge.
When does Hide land this hard right? Here is the fight, point it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn0UEuWza3o Peter landed 2 right hands of any significance in the Vitali fight
I don't think the solidity of Vitali's chin should even be questioned, tbh. It's his all round ability that gets over rated by some on here.
What time did he land it because I've just watched it and can't see it and both commentators say nothing of any significance was landed by either man. :huh Vitali had a very good chin ,that does not alter the fact he was dropped in sparring by Travis Walker and Raphael Butler ,two big hitters.
Commentators miss a lot and often get caught up on banter. I'll see if I can find another video. The right hand happened in round one with Vitali's back facing the camera. This is from memory. It is not FACT that Walker or Butler floored him. There is no major news or video, just one unknown type saying it happened. What did happen was Vitali hurt his knee.
Hide was a fast handed puncher. Bowe called him the hardest puncher he ever fought. Nothing Hide landed bothered Vitali in the slightest. Unfortunately, this video does not have slow motion replay or the best angles, but you can see for yourself when Hide landed and how Vitali reacted to it.He was not hurt. Did not retreat. Did not cover up. Did not clinch. He simply continued to engage. See the 3:11 mark 4:00 mark 4:08 mark and 5:04 mark of this video ( Best angle ) https://vimeo.com/11156599
his chin is good, on par at least with the other guys who lasted about 6 rounds with the deadly lennox eg Bruno, briggs vits relies on his chin to win, rather than evasion like wlad. it allows him to engage.
You're referring to when they were in a clinch and Lewis had a hand free so threw about 15 hooks to the body? Those weren't bombs, he had zero leverage on those shots pure arm punching. I wouldn't say that that is a good reference for how tough his body is
Travis Walker knocking him down (at least in the controlled environment of sparring, where the point is to get in work and where shots are taken more willingly due to headgear & larger gloves, an environment often more consistently physical and without the movement & multi-range tactics a boxer would employ in a real match) is unsurprising. Walker is a one-trick pony but it really is some trick. Boy can punch. Raphael Butler, though? :blood
And keep in mind that Walker dropped Vitali with a left hook to the body, so it's not even a knock on Vitali's chin:yep Butler...at that time there were rumors that it was rather a slip or an off-balance KD
It's not intended to be a knock on his chin, just a piece of information that many may not be aware of.
