They're still spurious facts, though. If you take judges of the era being slightly biased against Ali and add them to you liking the idea of proving your man to be better, that's stacking the deck a wee bit. Besides, just because Barry Bonds has impressive numbers on paper doesn't mean he's going to be remembered by history as being vastly superior to Babe Ruth. There's a reason we use subjective judging instead of CompuBox to score fights, but it likely won't shock you to know that judges' scorecards can give the wrong impression of how a fight went.

We don't really have Vitali's career KO percentage, because - surprise - he's still in the midst of said career. When I scored a KO in my first fight, that didn't give me a 100% KO record; it gave me a 1-0-0 record.

If you ask me, I think Vitali's plenty impressive, too. He doesn't have to juke the stats to be impressive; he just is. Would I have been happier if he had to reestablish himself in the division before the title fight? Sure, but, like all the projected stats, it's academic.

i know what you're saying man...i feel bad that Klitschko doesn't really have much competition in the HW division but i can't call him the greatest puncher ever or say he's the best heavyweight just cuz of his KO percentage or how many rounds he's won when reality tells me he's faced nothing but unknown fighters. when Ali, Frazier, Louis, etc, were fighting they used smaller sized gloves, felt much more pain, fought 15 rounds, and still fought much more bouts then today. again, not Klitschko's fault, just fighting in the wrong era, would've loved to seen him back against Foreman, Frazier and the rest of em's era....and just another thing that comes to mind - Ali took Foremans best shots and ended up dropping Foreman. that's pretty impressive to be able to absorb that kind of pain....

The division at the time of Foreman's comeback time was strong, but Foreman didn't fight any of the elite fighters from that era except Holyfield (he lost a very one-sided decision), Morrison (he lost a very one-sided decision), and Moorer (he was losing a very one-sided decision until that hail-mary shot).

Most of his other comeback fights against decent opposition were very, very close decision wins.

Even the 80's was better than the current era for HW's. I've been watching boxing since it started being widely televised, and I even remember quite a few title fights from my youth that were only covered on the radio (showing my age!) that I listened to with my dad. And I honestly can't remember the division ever being this pissweak.

Lennox Lewis - fight of equaly good fighters, still Lennox won due to Vitalys injury
Chris Bryd - Vitaly beat the **** out of Byrd till his rotator injury
Sam Peter - beat the **** out of Peter
Corrie Sanders - turned Sanders face into wiener schnitzel
Juan Gomez - made him turn away to stop punishment

2:3 is the record, but the record alone without further information isn´t enough, else you could say Lennox record with weakass Rahman is 1:1 ;)

I like Vitali but Earnie Shavers is undeniably the greatest puncher ever at heavyweight in my book.

Lewis won because of the hideous injuries he inflicted on VITLAY, don't make it sound like it was an accident.

VITLAY did not beat the **** out of Byrd, far from it. He was ahead on the cards and quit, with Byrd coming on strong in that last round :yep

Yes he beat the **** out of Peter.

Yes he beat Sanders, after being floored in the first.

Yes he beat Gomez, how impressive.

Vitali is not a knock out artist.
    He´s a great heavyweigt,with a nice hard jab and yes,he can punch.
But he´s not that kind of puncher who, ends he´s fights with one devastating punch..
Foreman, tua, morrison, tyson ect. could "kill" with one punch...Vitali stops he´s opponents in a different way,IMO.

Vitali has never defeated a very good fighter, let alone a great one.

lol the guy was in his upper 40's and had been gone for a while...i admire fighters from back then, fighting a shitload of fights against decent opponents unlike today when a goddamn boxer retires with just 30 or so wins and comes back when he needs money only to get his ass handed to him. i think it's safe to say you agree with me then? no matter how good people think Klitschko is, he shouldnt be considered the greatest puncher and not much of an elite heavyweight because the opposition he's facing just downright sucks. shame its not his fault but oh well
